I have had my buggy insured through Adrian Flux for a while, i have now taken it off the road with plans to start a rebuild, they offered to insure it whilst it was laid up but one of the conditions was that it had to be in a garage. As I don't have a garage I can get the buggy into can anyone suggest other insurers that may offer this service.
I will try A plan tomorrow.
Dosent help that I am away for the next 4 weeks on holiday and the buggy is sat on the front garden.

Certainly try Aplan - the good thing is that you can talk to them about the situation and they are very good at finding a solution.
(Though my guess is that not having a garage or similar to store it in is going to be tricky)
It doesn't need insuring when it's off the road though does it? Legally you just need to SORN it when it's not insured or taxed.
I know there's a slim chance of theft but I can't really see any insurer valuing an 'unroadworthy/pile of bits' car at much anyway.
I'd just put it on bricks, take the wheels off and throw a tarp over it.
Could be wrong on this one, but I think that vehicles now need to be insured even if off the road now ?

No need to be insured if you declare SORN.
I have done exactly what you said David, wheels off and covered up but I know what the thieving little sods are like round here >:(, leave anything that may contain a trace of metal and the scrap merchants will have it.
Just looked into it.
Something called Continuous Insurance Enforcement came into effect in 2011, meaning you have to be either insured or declared SORN`d as David said, you can`t just park them up any more

As far as Steves original question, I once had a policy to cover me whilst building a kit car that was nowhere near ready for the road, to cover the cost of chassis, engine, wheels etc and it was called something like "part built kit car policy" - no idea who it was from, and broker now gone, but probably worth giving Clare at A-Plan a yell on that one, as they are so heavily involved with the Kit sector that I would be very surprised if she could not come up with a solution for you.
TBH I doubt that any policy would cover parts going missing off the driveway, I'm guessing that the value they'd put on most used parts would be less than any policy excess imposed.
Spoken to the people at A-Plan. All sorted now, covered for fire/ theft etc whilst it is off the road. If I was only away fora wweek I wouldn't have bothered but being away for 4 I would have been dreading the phone ringing and the neighbour asking where it was.
That's good that you got it sorted. TBH I wouldn't fancy leaving my buggy on the drive uninsured.
Got mines updated. £145 from Adrian Flux. Over half the price of last years policy. Just over £10 a month when its broken down! Just need a real roof and I can drive it every day ;)
