Title: BuggySteves FF LWB Build Thread
Post by: BuggySteve on March 05, 2013, 05:51:19 PM
This was started as a Kyote II build on the old forum but thanks to Brian (Crowey) for selling the FF body & Mark (Team Acme) for buying the Kyote it is now a FF Build!

To start I will post up the pics I still have from before

I havent got all pics still but then I used rubberised underseal underneath fully Tekaloid undercoated & sprayed gloss black Tekaloid

Mark @ Dreamshack has lost your email so here is a progress pic

"Another Buggy frame and stiffening spaceframe augment, just tacked together right now, and a LOT more complicated than it looks. lots more tube and bracing to go. The main upper horizontal section is one piece almost 6 metres long and bending through several planes to cope with the bodyshell contours (8 photos)"

@Mark Cheers mate for posting up & the link. Its not finished but looking as I hoped for!

@Keith Yes mate he has done a proper bespoke job. How did you get on picking up your new shell? Any pics? :o

@Grissley Can meet up no probs mate. Where abouts are you?

@Roadrunner Keith who I bought the body from cut the rear to show off his upright engine. As I'm using a type 3 I am going to re-instate it pretty much as was so the rear doesnt look so high.
I'm going to change the angle of the numbe plate mount on the bonnet also ;-)up

Just a few pics of the cage. I picked up the buggy yesterday (Good Friday) from Mark at Dreamshack. Excellent job and truly excellent price. Don't know how he can do this quality of workmanship so cheaply!!

Obviously still lots to do but I do feel the end is now in sight ;D. Going to send the cage to be powdercoated while I get on with the bodywork. I have a week off work in a couple of weeks. I'm aiming to be finished the body by the end of that week ::)

The cage is tied in to the rear suspension & the front. It is virtually a spaceframe. Mark also located the steering column  to the under dash hoop & fixed the seats in position.

I have a lot of quite small plans that should add up to a fairly radically different buggy.

Just remember that you are going to need at least two people to ease the tub when you refit.  I think you might want to do the body painting in two stages if you are glassing the pods in.
paint the interior, fit the cage, then mask it up and glass and paint the exterior.

Yeah I remembered Mark. The cage is coming out soon to go off to the powdercoaters ;-)up

Right now I have got project CAMO back home, I can get back to the main event- Body prepping :(
Had an hour with my new electric random orbital with some 120 grit & got this far ::)
(http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t125/BuggySteve/IMG_01571_zpse191766b.jpg) (http://s159.photobucket.com/user/BuggySteve/media/IMG_01571_zpse191766b.jpg.html)

Nicki is at work Saturday & Sunday so I can have 2 full days at the body. Not sure how far I will get though :D

On a positive note the 120 is not gouging the gel but it is slow. All the old paint has to come off as I am using the polyester paint route as championed by Mel & some others

Hi Mark. Its getting there slowly.
I've got some polyester paint, there's a grey high build base then a clear topcoat that you mix a colour paste with for the colour.
Next weekend I will do the hole repairs then I can paint it :)

Mark the update is project CAMO should be mot'd this week. It's having a quick paint job before Swanage (time permitting). Then it will be for sale September time to fund finishing the FF.
I just flipped around which one hit the road first so I could be buggy mobile this summer!
The FF will still be done but probably autumn now, just mad busy with work :D
