Well after oooooooh erm over 25 years of wanting a Beach Buggy I finally own one :)
This pic was taken a couple of hours after buying it.
Picked it up off a fella in Wales & I live in South London.
So as the weather was raining pretty bad & being over 200 miles away I thought it best to A frame it home.
The previous owner to him was someone in Glasgow.
Both these past owners could have been members on here..........not sure ?
Its a Mk3 Volksrod on a 66 pan.
1300 Single port & still on wide five drums all round.
Looks pretty original to me, very complete & unmolested.
Painted in a kind of candy copper paint.
Can see evidence of past colours being red & possibly yellow ?
Rear seat & side padding is black with red piping.
Think the front seats are a fairly recent addition (will be going back to traditional Buggy Buckets though).
Came with soft wet weather gear in really good nick & is also black with red piping.
But sadly the pass door is missing.
Have had a quote of £375 to replicate a new one !!!!!!!!!!!
Thought that was a bit dear.......or am I just out of touch ?
Gonna try not to mess around with it too much & just have some fun with it ;-)up
Might put some bigger wheels & tyres on it ?
Thinking Banded Steels with domed caps, or maybe just wider front wheels.
Got a friend bringing over a pair of 12" wide Craigers this weekend with some big old Mickey Thompsons on them.
So I might even go down the whole cartoony look.
Well maybe ?
Hopefully it wont be raining this weekend & I can give it a proper once over.
Its covered up & very wet at the mo........

£375 for a door....I'd shop around were I you mate another £300 and you could probably have a whole new roof and doors made

After a quick drive of "The Death Trap" I found out what the word BODGE really means.
Steering wheel mounting nut finger tight.
Steering wheel to Boss bolts, 2 finger tight & 1 fell out & rattling around in the horn push.
Brake pedal to the floor.
All seatbelt mountings finger tight.
Insulating tape wrapped around leaking fuel hose.
Fuel filter stuck.....yes stuck.....to one of the exhaust heat risers.
One top bolt missing from the engine & one bottom bolt wound half way out.
The big bucket seats were screwed.......YES SCREWED...... to the floor & were all loose, with one screw missing.
Oh the list of bodges goes on & on & on............
It has an MOT too !!!! Hahahahaha !!!!!
Anyway.
Im tearing it apart & making it safe so no worries ;-)up

The seats are out & i'm replacing them with traditional low back buckets (see below, yes the covers are coming).

Question is.
Whats the best way to fix these to the floor ?
I was told to use the original seat runners.
Being a 66 floor pan the runners are the "skinny" type & I cant locate any early seats to cut the bottom of the frames out.
I assume thats what was meant ?
Flatlands sell Wedges to angle the seats & also do Runners.
But these are very expensive.
Do you really need to angle these seats ?
I was gonna just bolt them to some box section, as im 6'2" so need lots of room.
Any other ideas ??????

My seats are just bolted straight to floor as there is only going to be me driving it.
No need for adjustment or tilting, you can set the seating angle with the padding under the cover if you are going down that route.
motor sport firms sell seat wedges/mtgs cheaper than flatlands
If you bolt straight through the floorpan use some plate underneath to strengthen so the bolts dont split the floorpan with movement
I use flatland plates, with these under the floor pans for the bolts to allow the plates to sit on the floorpan
