Anyone know how much current the solenoid on the starter moter draws ? I want to use a switch to start the car and need to know if I can use the switch directly or would be better using a relay
I think the norm is to fit a relay with start buttons etc.
If in doubt put a relay on it. Safety first!
VW used a 35amp wire to the starter solenoid so I would certainly use a relay if using a Savage switch.

Always use a relay ;-)up

Also is it a genuine savage switch?
The reason I ask is the ones I have for lights etc. I'm not so sure. The packaging all looked good but I cant compare them to other sources. I have found the quality of the ones I have are quite poor. The "bezel"s fall off (several of them) and have to be glued and had one switch for the lights (under relay) "blow" on me - randomly switching off and on. Was certainly the switch and not the relay.
Thanks guys, a relay it is then. the switches were all brought from CBS, so I'm hoping they are all good quality

... and to be fair, I didn't buy from them, but wish may be I should have. Will be interesting to see if they are different to the only slightly cheaper ones I bought a year or so ago. ;-)up
