(http://i667.photobucket.com/albums/vv38/cotney05/chassis2.jpg) (http://s667.photobucket.com/user/cotney05/media/chassis2.jpg.html)

b*****d chassis is a left hooker...didnt realise when i brought it got properly shafted on that ...atleaest its only a cpl minor modifications to make it rhd

and the moral to the story is dont trust anybody and always look something over fully before buying

that is a bummer, at least you found out now before you got in to it. nothing worse than having to undo work.

What's wrong with a left hooker??

Left hookers are cool!! ;-)up

I wish I had spent more time trying to source a lhd chassis before I started my build! :(

That's fair enough, when you have a target planned out you have to go all out to achieve it or you'll not be happy

well i live in good old england where we drive on the left so as stated before i need to be able to see to overtake...i dont plan on being slow  :D ....my ratrod i built was 100bhp (ish) went off the clock at 100mph...more the happy with that...that was from a twinport 1600...the engine i have is fabled to be one but as yet its unknown....started life as an AR1300 twinport but a previous owner rebuilt it and fitted a dizzy with a restrictor in it...the guy a got it off is quite clued up in bug engines and said that he thinks its a 1600...but even if it is only a 1300 the AR lumps push about 50bhp, same as a bog standard 1600 so summin to work with as i drive

my ratrod wen i first finished it...was a proud day lol...simple things plz simple minds eh

Nice to see a Rat that hasn't has its front wings butchered....er, I mean trimmed. Nice one!

A couple of 6 inch G clamps will pull the shell down at the back.

At the sides start off with a couple of longer bolts to pull it all together.

G clamps thru the oval inspection hole at the back onto the body lip. Use some timber to spread the load.

i would use a gasket also i notice your engine has twin heat risers to the carb might be worth changing this as there not many if any buggy style exhausts that have the twin take off

I would defo use a gasket, I would also use an original style one.not onebof the foam types, there not very good when they get wet as hold on to the water.

you need a pre 72 front mounting and box nose cone ( a straight swap) your box is 72 onwards either that or weld a later mount onto the pan.

i'm hopin to get the engine in today...gotto av a go at fixing me brothers w**k box skoda fabia first tho....goona bastardise another bug seat for the passenger seat and maybe remove the standard seat runners from the floorpan so i can bolt seats str8 to the floor or weld them in...not decided yet...bit short on funds atm so that will hamper progress for a while...just tryin to get stuff done that wont cost me any money...i have 95% of the parts i need  8)

I dare say you've checked that already.

plannin on sittin basically on the floor but yea im 6 ft so that may be an issue  ;D brace doesnt fit good enough anyhow so i mite av to fgure out another plan...didnt get my engine in yesterday as i was doing my brothers skoda and fixin someone elses bmw....got chance to go round tightenin a few bolts...slapped a cpl bare wheels on the bk end just to av a look and relalised that modding a late beetle seat to fit aint as good an idea as i first thought

not updated my progress lately so thought i better....i sold my daily to fund the buggy and to be fair was on its last legs and a numpty offered my double wot it was worth  :-\ the youth of today eh lol...anyway i went shopppin online and brought allsorts of odds and sods for the buggy like...master cylinder and all piping for breaks...extra travel balljoints....beam seals...etc etc..most importantly is my gearbox adaptor mount...that wont fit.....the studs from the chasiss are too short to accept the new mount so tomorow i have to get outside and grind them off and drill them out and replace with 2 longer stainless steel nut and bolts...gonna get balljoints sorted at the weekend and probably all 4 tie rod ends .....still a few bits i need some of them pretty vital like a seat or 2..tyres....speedo....and sortin how to mount steering.... :o bigger undertaking then i thought this buggy build...and im doin the bare essentials...aiming for a daylight mot

cant get these studs to drill out  >:( cheap nasty local hardware shop drill bits just go blunt instantly...so need to invest in some decent drill bits...which is a bit pants as the buggy fund is back down to zero lol ...also gotto get a hole saw set that is capable of  cuttng thru metal so i can relocate the master cylinder hole to drivers side as some 6 fingered numpty who i got the chassis off welded on a brand new framehead ...for a left hooker...tw.t...anyway another minor problem which will cost money i aint got atm....will be making some progress today in the mud  :( will post some pics tonite

I think that most frame heads come lhd . You do not need a hole saw just mark out the holes on the correct side then drill a series of small holes just touching the line and each other this will take out the middle then finish with a half round file. Do this on the in side and out side for accuracy . ;-)up

fair point Manxrod i mite look into that..

today got all 4 balljoints pressed in (extra travel jobbies) and sorted out new tie rod ends in both the long and short tie rods....then i had to reassmble the beam which was a messy and frustrating job...thats why i have no pics of todays progress...will take some pics tomoz...will post a cpl from yesterday shortly

needed a few drain holes

exactly what i did.
you can even fit a bicycle horn as long as it can be heard.
There are a few quick fixes you can do to get it through the MOT as long as it doesn't compromise safety :)

yesterday made some progress...got her on all fours and out of the garden and onto the drive...found a t25 alloy wheel fitting kit in me shed...the fronts are adaptor bolts to change it to longer studs and they screw in form the front and the rears need pressin into the rear hubs from the inside so im not entirly sure thats possible yet so it has some mk4 golf wheel bolts in the rear for the mo....rollbar has gone to a mate who is a master fabricator as it needs to be 4 inch wider and feet fitting to it....once hes finished with that then hes goin to take my brace...add a cpl extra brackets and weld it up all pretty like lol...few piccies  ;-)up

need to clear me little shed out to try locate a few bits and bobs...really want to get ride height lower on the front and set the trackin a bit better as its waaaaay out....mite fit handbrake cables and look at pressing these other wheel studs into rear hubs...we shall see

to save destroying the ball joint boots when removing them slacken the nut so it is on the end of the thread then hit the arm with a large hammer a few times and the joint will pop out.
good to see one step forwards and two back happens to other people too, you will get there though.
