Title: Ace Cafe / Central London Cruise - September 6th
Post by: AndyRobinson on January 25, 2014, 01:55:53 PM
Ace Cafe / Central London Cruise

Yes its the welcome return back to its more usual September date. Organised by the SDBC
Full details to follow but we generally meet at Beckton (E6 6LG) East London and cruise through the centre of town taking in The Limehouse link tunnels (yes Tunnels!!!!), Tower Hill, The Embankment, Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Park Lane - lots and lots of waving tourists and then heading to the world famous Ace Cafe (NW10 7UD) just off the North Circular.

We have the cafe booked for 2pm to 4pm. Full details will appear here as we get closer to the date.

Here's a taster from last years cruise:

In case anyone hasn't seen this yet.

http://www.classicandsportscar.com/news/general-classic-car-news/help-csc-fight-the-london-classic-car-ban (http://www.classicandsportscar.com/news/general-classic-car-news/help-csc-fight-the-london-classic-car-ban)

It appears they are proposing an ultra low emissions zone in London, the ban will be on pre-EU6 diesels — cars registered before 2014, and pre-EU4 petrols, as well as any registered before 2005.

Lets hope if it does go through it's only enforced during the week and not weekends

Cant see that going through at all - politically will never happen (not without lots of exceptions) never the less, very happy to sign it regardless.

I just saw this too here

http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/news/classic-car-auctions/800023357/?utm_campaign=CCFS-Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_source=01112013-Newsletter&utm_content=Lead-story&cm_ven=ExactTarget&cm_cat=CCFS_NEWS_FRI_140314&cm_pla=CCS_Newsletter&cm_ite=Lead+story&cm_ainfo=&att1=&att2=%%__AdditionalEmailAttribute2%%&att3=%%__AdditionalEmailAttribute3%%&att4=%%__AdditionalEmailAttribute4%%&att5=%%__AdditionalEmailAttribute5%% (http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/news/classic-car-auctions/800023357/?utm_campaign=CCFS-Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_source=01112013-Newsletter&utm_content=Lead-story&cm_ven=ExactTarget&cm_cat=CCFS_NEWS_FRI_140314&cm_pla=CCS_Newsletter&cm_ite=Lead+story&cm_ainfo=&att1=&att2=%%__AdditionalEmailAttribute2%%&att3=%%__AdditionalEmailAttribute3%%&att4=%%__AdditionalEmailAttribute4%%&att5=%%__AdditionalEmailAttribute5%%)

They say proposed by 2020 but yes hopefully won't happen, can't see how it will what about the people who actually live in central London with old classic cars the royal family being some of them....... then again they can just move them out to the country estate ;D

Classic red open top buses?

But even in 2020, there will still be a lot of pre-2005 petrol cars/vans etc and what about pre-2014 vans/taxis etc. still on the roads.

Title: Re: Ace Cafe / Central London Cruise - September 6th

Need to check with Hunter and Gary, but personally my guess is that it would be the usual one - Beckton, across docklands, embankment, parliament square, Marble Arch etc... Can discuss at Swanage I reckon.

The route will be the normal route taking in the sites through London. I will check a few days beforehand to make sure no road closures or visits from the pope.

If anyone has got any places they would like to see we can tailor the route to accommodate

I'm planning on canary wharf, Tower of London, Big Ben, Buckingham palace and marble arch

There will be meeting points at Beckton, Thurrock, clacketts lane services and wisely.

Let us know where you plan to join the cruise

CB radios will be a great help to keep us all together

Don't quote me, until Gary confirms it, but in previous years, we are at Beckton for about 10.00-10.30 and so I would suggest Thurrock at 9.30? ?

But I stress am only saying that as a guide for you.

Meanwhile, we may have some visitors join us too, so certainly worth putting this date in your diary even if you don't normally join us for it.  :-X

If any of our more northern chums want to come down the night before I'm about 40 miles north of London.

I have 2 spare rooms, a double and a twin, plus room for a few tents in the garden, private driveway too with plenty of room.  It'll save some of you a long drive.

Let me know.

Hi, I'm travelling south with Dave Doon L001 calling in @ Colchester and all ports south on the way to Beckton ( Dave to confirm pick=up's) any way , those not mobile buggy owners who fancy slumming it for the day( a couple or three) and don't mind listening to 70's reggae , your welcome to jump in, Bring warm clothes, I don't use a roof.  Will deliver any passenger back home on the way home to Suffolk, ( forgot to mention baffles out @ Beckton).

So looking forward to this 8)

Plan is
Shell garage by Orwell bridge about 8:15, then on down A12, M25 to Thurrock
Happy to meet anyone on the the way who needs a lift.

Clem, sorry if you have already discussed this, I haven't read all the pages.  When and where are the Colchester lot meeting up?

Anyone want to meet at Borehamwood services on A12 at Chelmsford?

Great collection of photos you have put together there Peter, it was a cracking day.

Favourite moments?
33 buggies queueing to get through the security barriers onto Canary Wharf with three harassed policemen trying to get everyone else past while they got the OK to let us in. They had tall ships in and loads of road closures so could have done without us.  Then once in everyone taking photos with loads of signs saying strictly no photography.

The many "supercars" we saw being ignored by the public and out revved by everyone.  The flash Ferrari with the old boy driving who got forced into a lap of Parliament Square.

The irate taxi driver stuck as someone blocked the road by the Tower to get all of us through a right turn.  Did anyone see a taxi driver smile during the whole cruise? We had a bus driver get out of his cab to take photos.

And of course the buggys, drivers, passenger and a great day all round.

I had to leave the Ace a bit early as had to get back for an evening out, dropped my passenger at Wickford then a nice cruise back home.  Got on the dual carriageway and got a move on, speedo didnt like the numbers and stopped working (had sat nav) and speedo stuttered back into life when I got back into 30/40 speeds- strange

Really great photos as ever from all the usual suspects and and few others too. Brilliant brilliant day - well done to Hunter and Gary for organising it.... (sorry Gary, one day may be, one day...  ;) )

Have started to do a video... going to take a long  long time, so much footage to add. BUT have done a short one for now (well its still 8mins) just processing it now and will upload the link as soon as its available.  ;-)up

....and here it is!

Just a tiny amount of the shed load of video footage I have, care of Mark Watson (4buggy), Sam Lomax, Joe Nevell and Hunter as well as my go or on camcorder. I will try to do a more detailed video when I have more time.

Oh and it's reassuring that it's not just me who forget to hit the record button  ;D ;D

Remember try to watch in HD if you can....

Firstly I would like to thank Gary for sorting the logistics in London, this is a nightmare but a cracking job once again. ;-)up

Next I would ike to say a big " THANKYOU" to all you guys for turning up and making it what it has become, an event not to be missed. :D

And Andrew, thanks for sorting the camera work out and doing the editing, that first clip has a real nice sample of what went on.

Thanks Guys. Hunter.

Yes was going to ask the same! I know he asked how many of us there were and seemed v friendly, but not shown you were chatting a bit with him.

All the coppers were really good considering the disruption we undoubtedly caused at a few spots, that lot at Canary Wharf were brilliant.
I guess compared to the scum they usually have to deal with us lot were a welcome distraction.
As always, great day, thanks to the organisers

He was a more interested in the cars, where we were going, what we were doing, but from a friendly point rather than a grumpy copper point of view, said how great all the buggies look and hoped it stayed dry for us all, he was a good laugh anf good that some police do have that human side.........
Great video Mr R
