Hi All,
I have been looking at Stena Line Ferries across from Harwich to Hook of Holland as part of the IBW 2014 trip.
I will be taking the 23:15pm ferry on Thursday 5th June, arriving in Holland at 7:15am.
Then for the return leg I will be taking the 22:30pm ferry on Monday 9th June, getting back to Harwich at 6:30am on the Tuesday.
Currently the cost is £59 each way, plus you also need a cabin each way which start at £30 for a single and £39 for a twin.
So in total - cost will be £178 for a single driver and £196 for a double.
BUT
I spoke with Stena Line on Saturday and asked them a couple of questions about could single drivers, share a double cabin, reducing the cost and could we get a further discount as a club, as we will be taking a good number of buggies and people.
I actually spoke with a nice lady in Holland who has given me the direct phone number for her boss in the UK who will be back from a conference on Thursday, to discuss further discounts.

I will keep you all updated once I know what discounts we can get. Hopefully this will be by means of a discount code. ;-)up
I am happy to sort out discounts and tell you what time I will be going and on which ferries but please be aware i won't be taking it on myself to book everyone's ferries for them. ;)

Well done Chad, keep up the good work. perhaps they would like a very rare mass buggy/ ferry photo for their advertising or something may be worth a bit more discount.
That would be a great opportunity.

Finally got round to e-mailing Stenaline on their correct e-mail (,com not .co.uk - wondered why I didn't get a reply :-[)
It looks like it was worth while after all as we have been offered a £10 discount each way (about 20%) for the car, although no reduction for cabins. However, if two single drivers are travelling in two cars they will be able to share a cabin, effectively halving the cost of the cabin.
Reply I had from Paul Newbiggin at Stenaline....
"Thank you for your mail.
We can do a reduced price of £49.00 each way for the vehicle plus driver for all vehicles travelling. Additional passengers in a vehicle will be £12.00 each way.
It is possible for two drivers to share a 2-berth cabin but we will need to make the reservation for you on a special product.
Your travel dates are at a busy time for us so all cabins would be at our standard brochure rates.
If you want to make a booking please let me know and I will take care of ot for you.

Those who wish to book the ferry for the International Buggy Weekend should contact Paul Newbiggin at Stenaline direct and mention the Beach Buggy Forum and the £10 each way discount that has been offered.
I have promised that those folks travelling as singles in buggies but wanting to share cabins will book as a pair or part of a small group to help out. This is the only way you will be able to share a cabin.
I think cabins are £30 single and £39 double/twin each way. So two single drivers sharing a twin would save around £21 each overall.

Just a heads up guys,
Looking on the website the prices are rising daily saying to me that the ship is starting to fill up.
Just paid £141 for the return, including sharing a cabin with George both ways, by calling Paul. Would have been close to £190 if I'd have booked it online.

Vehicle return £74.00
2 pax return £48.00
2-berth cabin return £86.00
Total Cost £208.00
So for you and your mate it will £104 each ;-)up

I have sorted european insurance and rescue through A Line as an add on to my insurance, runs for a year but on renewal can just amalgamate with my insurance. Just over £60

There is nothing about booking camping on the algemenebuggyclub.eu site about booking camping I assume turn up and pay as the IBW nieuws bit does not work unless booking is not open yet.
As Dave says a block uk camping area may be an idea once final numbers are known.
Right there is a link on the Dutch Buggy Club site (Algemene Buggy Club), but the actual details for the show are only currently shown on the Dutch link. If you use the English page it just shows a flyer at the moment.

Using a google translate the basic gist of it is that you can buy tickets in advance (just like when we went to the German show 2 years ago).
The tickets for the whole Friday night to Monday morning are either 40 Euro or 60 Euro if paid before 1st May. This rises to 50 euro and 70 euro if booked after 1st May.
The 40 Euro is just for entry on all days
But the 60 Euro ticket gives you entry, camping and food (yes food) that's 3 evening meals and 3 breakfasts.
This happened in Germany too and its like a great big cook out and basically the whole camp joins up in the main marque for something to eat.
This is the ticket I will be having.
There is stuff going on all weekend from treasure hunts, massive cruise, off-road, team games (like its a knockout - the UK won in Belgium 4 years ago :D) and mud dragging.

I will make contact with them about a specific British camping area but to be honest we will still likely be the smallest contingent there - for instance teh Dutch guys took 57 or so buggies to Germany when I was last there 8)

Nice one Chad, some good info but I am unable to get google to translate it it say not from secure server or bad url. I guess they will load the other languages sometime as as french does the same.
120 euro for the whole weekend including 3X brekky and meals is good valuve and save packing to much kit and supplies.
most of it is work out able kenteken is reg number, bankrekening is your accout number, woonplaats is town.
hopefully my bank will do the transfer but mine comes up with a 6 digit sort code box, still got weeks to get it sorted out so no panic.

Complete Kit Car are coming up to Lee's this week to do an article on Doon so I can spek to them then. I used to help John Clewer out with his motor sport photography and wrote a number of articles for the old MBC mags so I am willing to have a go :D
no worries Chad best you have a chat with them so we have an idea of what they want format wise and how much space is available, I Know Vanessa will be doing loads of snapping with her camera along with the rest of us for photo selection.
hopefully they will give us an approx number of quality photos but they will probably want loads of photos so they can sort the best ones in their opinions.

Basically the 60 euro price is for camping for three nights, soup and roll on Friday night, breakfast Saturday, Sunday, Monday and evening food on Saturday and Sunday.
But I am sure there are hotels nearby for those of a more delicate mature. :D
I think the show is actually at a camp site this time rather than just an odd field somewhere.

Have booked with the club in the Netherlands, now I am trying to pay. My banks website insists on the IBAN number being 8 or 11 digits, the one on the Algemene website is NL95INGB0004164266 - 18 digits - which I reckon is the full code, ie the bank code plus their account number.
So tried putting in the first 8, no good, tried the first 11, still wont recognise it.
So before I phone them has anyone else managed to pay using this number?

Already knew my online banking would not be happy with it plus it is Euro not pounds so I was thinking of calling into the bank to see what and how or do it over the counter. Suppose we could paypal it to them but I have not checked it out there as we have 3 months.
My online banking does support payment in euros it just doesnt work.
I have registered for telephone banking so will be able to phone them and get a grown up to do it for me.
Lucky we have got plenty of time.

Just been researching payment on line via the bank site, international credit transfers SEPA are £15 and the other type £25 or a priority one £40.
the present euro rate for the extra 10 euros each for 2 of us on the gate is £16.68 total. Now thinking fill in the booking form and send it in with pay on gate at least I know they will get it rather than giving the bank another £15 for nowt to pay their stupid bonuses.
paypal want 3.5% but all I can see is e-mail account payments.
Anyone else had a look at this yet but for single travellers payment on the gate is cheaper all around by my reckoning.

Has anyone managed to book camping for the weekend for this.
My internet bank wants the name of the bank to pay camping to but the club don't provide that info. All other info is ok. Just the bank.
Tried emailing them and no reply :-\

Not sure we are actually saving anything by pre-booking, as you lose most of it in the exchange rate, or transaction charges. Trying to pay in Euros with something like Paypal has always been costs prohibitive anyway, and as far as banks go, the exchange rate is laughable.
On the gate it is then ;-)up
UPDATE ON PAYMENT
I have been working behind the scenes and been in contact with the Algemene Buggy Club (thanks to Patrick from Belgium ;)) and basically I have agreed that we can all pay on the gate but at the discounted rate BUT only if I still pre-book for everyone, so they know who is coming along.

Nearer the day got to make sure we all arrive at Parkeston together. Might be best to ask that they put us all on last because my experience of the Hook (admitedly in the '70s) is that when you leave the ferry you have to get going and out of the way so there arent any opportunities to all group up .
Added bonus is that we have the whole length of the car deck to quietly move off in an orderly fashion

If one of us takes a straight recovery bar or even a strap any serious breakdowns could be towed to the show for repair or back into the uk.
Engine repairs/swaps andclutches have been done on buggy meets so get your booking done.
I'll get that to you when I have the other Reg numbers Chad, I've been looking at the route and where to meet those on the Hull sailing (they get in 30 mins after us and go to the Europort on the wrong side of the river) and there is a rest platz called Maatveld between junctions 16/17 on the A20 NE of Rotterdam, it also has fuel and a café to grab anything we need for the journey.

A few years ago, a mate of mine needed to get to Seville very quickly, and the fastest way was to jump in my car and drive there - I have a few cars, so could easily spare this one for a mate - the urgency took him to over to Gibralta and then to Bulgaria (to do with air crash investigation) where he stumbled over an incredible deal on some property - ended up buying 8 houses and a lot of land - seem to recall it was around 30 acres including the forests (didn`t break 25 grand for the lot) and the plan was that I was going to go out and visit him at some point for a holiday and drive back - just haven`t got around to it yet.

I have been in more conversation with the Algemene Buggy Club and they would still like everyone to fill in a registration form for the event. The list of names I collated is to be used as a check list by them.

The important bit is where it says Bank Account, simply fill in "IBW At the Gate" which will ensure you only pay the pre-pay amount, not the on the gate price.

Chad, is it you has the contact at Stena? If so can we arrange to all get on the boat last so we can leave together as my memory of the Hook is that they want you out so they can reload making it tricky to keep this many cars together.

To be honest we have very little chance of keeping all of us together the whole way on a bank holiday weekend and would be better off breaking up into groups of 4/5 and meeting at pre-set locations on route.
What we do need is somewhere to pitch together when we arrive and mobile numbers just in case.
Been have a bit of a chat with Jonathan pver this and we (well he) have a;ready identified a meeting point just outside of the docks when we arrive.
I think no more than 4 buggies in groups and pre set meeting points every 2 hours or so.
I will contact the president of the ABC to try and get a large camping plot all together.

refueling stops just wondering what the worst buggy will be doing as some folks running small tanks will need more refueling stops, the Jas does 150 miles safely between refills but should go up to 170-180 on the fumes so will need a refill about 40 miles before the ferry then 100 miles after so half way to IBW,
apparently full extra fuel cans are not allowed on the ferry but that may be like our gas bottles in the caravan for the channel tunnel turned off and sealed they will be checked but they never looked just accepted what I said.
just got a new airbed that will hopefully stay up.
just looked at the A7 ( it is motorway) route back over the bridge/dam about 30km long then down the coast as we are in no rush for the late night ferry.

really want to do the dam, only time I did it before fog came down just as I got on there and cleared as I came off so saw nothing except 50 yards of road in front of me.
The range in my orange buggy is only about 100-120 miles, take a look at my map.. I've added fuel stops along the route
and I though our range was limiting as the kango does 200 miles.

at the IBW there is always a big marquee qhere they serve the food, with a bar for night time sessions (generally at 1 euro a bottle). But on the Saturday night the host club puts on a 'show' and its the main party night, but saying that Sunday night is always a big night too being as Monday is bank holiday in the Netherlands.

Teh T-shirts have been ordered and with teh total final count being 30, teh price came down to.

Well the tshirts arrived yesterday in double quick time (2 days from ordering). Print looks great and all was fine except they sent all 30 shirts in a short length :-\ 25 inches long (or short) to be exact. N ow considering an xxl should be 33 inches long you can in imagine what they look like :-[
Spoke to company and they were embarrassed and are sending proper sizes by Friday.

It's a mild form of dyslexia, I leave letters off the end of words when writing (old school with 1 of those pen type things) which is classed in the same boat.
They do think it's due to multi tasking and dividing your concentratio. (HA HA)
It can be ADHD but I've not noticed Dave-Dream doing it.

We hit the m6 after Chorley but can catch up on route next one is a14. Planning on midday ish leave and a steady drive.

An excellent job there Jon, just a couple of other reminders when driving,
priority to the right is still used there so you have to watch the roadsigns ( white and yellow :-X diamond you have priority 3 triangles on the road you give way)
solid white line are not to be crossed at a junction you have to stop not roll over and go,
no sounding the horn in towns unless extreme danger you flash your lights. (We travel in stealth mode then)
I will throw some basic tools in and a scissor jack a litre of engine oil and a few bits to do temp repairs on electrics but it is only 4 or 5 weekends driving in a few days so hopefully trouble free motoring for all.
Anyone got a straight bar or tow rope to take just in case.

He is sending them a mail asking them to prioritise it but doesn't think I'll have it back in time. There is , he says, nothing else that can be done.

Is this your first passport application Ben? I.e. will you need to attend an interview? If not then there may still be a chance you'll get it in time.. I was in the same situation a few weeks ago and it only took a week from when I asked them to either do something with my application or cancel it and send my stuff back.

Well,
After receiving 60 lots of too short T-shirts (kid you not) it now seems like I have actually spoken to a person who knows what they are doing and proper T-shirts are on teh way for next Monday. The bonus is they have said tehy will use the higher quality soft feel t-shirt to ensure all is OK. (Apparently the supplier of the cheap t-shirts has sent them a batch of short length without their knowledge!!)
Also the knights outfits arrived yesterday too......
Any of you local folk want to come and collect to Save Dave having to sit on a huge pile of T-shirts and Costumes to the ferry ? ;-)up

I've stripped all your old engine down to swap the shiny bit's. I have found out why you had clutch slip.... The return spring on the arm is broke, I should have another one in my bit's ;-)up

Well Dave will be pleased to learn that after 2 weeks of 'extensive' tinkering to make the buggy look exactly the same as it did before I finally got it back on the road today ;-)up
Fitted electric fuel pump, refitted serpentine pulley system after re-tapping the thread that takes the tensioner pulley (alternator stand), new fuel hoses, new filter king regulator / filter, re-painted tin ware, fitted new plugs, sorted out some electrics, fitted new front indicators, sorted out play in steering, fitted new carb gaskets, new carb filters and good clean of rest of engine bits --- but not to the standard of Clem. I di wipe the dirt of teh exhaust though ;D
Took it for a drive today and well happy, The flat spot that was developing has gone completely, the engine runs and ticks over very smooth, pulls nice and the steering is nice and precise.
Now to remove rear seat and fit additional USB socket......

Use that. It rendered my satnav redundant as Google are forever updating it. No more having to plug the sstnav into the PC etc....

I use "co-pilot" app as my sat nav on my iPhone. its really good - full sat nav plus loads of features. AND all the data (maps) etc is stored at install, so does NOT use data on the go (unless you want live traffic data.
Highly recommended!!!!
Got a spare garmin nuvi 250 here with europe maps on so if anyone wants to borrow one or buy a cheap one it is here.

Well guys. We all made it to the camp safely
Ollie broke a rocker shaft literally whilst coming down the off ramp of the ferry. Quick recovery to a fabulous vw classic place near Rotterdam and all fixed. The hospitality is brilliant. Currently 30 degrees plus, blue sky and buggies arriving all the time. Organisers reckon over 250 so far. Great night in the barn last night, big show tonight. See you all soon. The GB buggy crew.

Had an awesome time and thanks again for your translation efforts, you were amazing especially as everything had to be translated at least 4 times into Cockney, Brummie, Welsh and West Country

Amazingly my speedo says I drove 550 miles, for someone 26 miles from the boat thats a lot of miles on the wrong side of the road.

I can only second what Snoopy has written. What a fantastic five days!! The drive, the boat, the getting there, the welcome, the games, the silliness, the drunken-ness, the venue, the memories, the drunken-ness, the sugar puffs, the randomness, the buggies, the drunken-ness?, the new mates, the old mates, the food (thanks Allan n Van), cross dressing (Flags n Allan), the cruise's (hats off to Chad.... what a star!!) and to getting the award. Time for a few cold one's and a nap. Good NIGHT ;D

There's a buggy with a paint / vinyl job that I love and hate in equal measure - the yellow and green snakeskin one. The more I look the more I'm impressed but I'm still having an issue accepting it. :-\ :D
It looks like it was a great event and apart from the boat ride (boats are the devil's work) I bet the trip over was pretty enjoyable too.

The night time crossings with cabin's were excellent this year, leave at 11:30pm, arrive 6:30am with private cabin including bathroom and shower. Slept most of teh way and other than the shake of the engines when docking you didn't feel a thing. Both crossings we flat as a pancake..
Made it back safely last night, but too knackered to post !!
I must say thank you to everybody who was involved in making that trip one of the best, and funniest adventures I have ever been on. Mahoosive thanks to Chad for putting up with me for the week, and taking me along as a passenger.
And a special thanks to our new friend Ruben who made sure we knew what was going on at all times ;-)up

I assume an early mass ferry booking would be required due to the bank holiday weekend if we are going via Harwich again with only 2sailongs a day.
Would love to do this but firstly need to get confidence in buggy. Secondly need to get a stating away permit as our new arrival will only be a few months old at that time
