Title: Fish 'n' Chips at Mel's/Charity Cruise - 15th September
Post by: Hazel on July 17, 2013, 11:15:32 AM
Hi Folks!  ;-)up

A while ago Mel said if I could lead a cruise up to Mel's, he would buy me breakfast  :P and I think he posted on ye olde forum about getting some of us buggers making the trip over there too! And I can't be the only 1 who would like to see the old git again!

So who would be up for the trip? It'll probably be an early one - driving at "crack of sparrow fart" as Dave DND recently called it. How about we avoid the motorways and take the scenic route?

Also, Mel suggested that maybe I could combine something with this buggy trip and the stroke charity, and he is happy to donate and do his bit if its of any interest... I'm just wondering how, I don't think I could ever do it as good as Krug, but maybe call it a charity cruise and everyone puts a £1 or £2 in the pot, sort of thing...

Just a thought  ;)

Love the idea.... August for me may be a problem as I have the hospital event, holidays and "Bull Fest" at my local pub ... a music festival I wont miss....

Even if I cant make it - happy to help out with some of the charity ideas and things that I know work from the hospital event.  ;-)up

I'm defo up for it, I said I would call on him soon and besides, he owes me some money!!!!
(Mel, if you are reading this.... ;-)up  ;D ;D ;D )

But yes dates will be tricky in August, I think it's the second week we have beach buggin down south and though its a Saturday (so could do the next day) it's the London/ace cafe run.

If we can find a date in August great, but if not there's still September which might be fine weather. (We did October there 2 years ago and it was like August!)

Cheers, as did I  :)

Seems like it's sorted them, Sunday 15th of September it is!

The plan was that I was leading a cruise up there, so who's coming from the Midlands, perhaps I should get a route put together and we can meet up/pick people up en route.......  :-\

Oh and I should probably note that, it isn't really breakfast at Mel's place but a café in his area... ;-)up

besides.... the leader never stays as the leader. if they did it would be a boring line of cars. got to mix it up a bit. nothing worse than looking at the same arse end and having the same loon in your rear mirror all the time.

Cruising
is a social activity that primarily consists of driving a car. Cruising can be an expression of the freedom of possessing a driver's license. Cruising is distinguished from regular driving by the social and recreational nature of the activity, which characterized by an impulsively random, often aimless course.

didnt think we were on an aimless course?? I classed that night as a mad dash !!
the destination was more important than the journey

Well no-one said it was cancelled did they?

I think this is the list of people definitely coming:

Big Clem
Muzzy
AndyR
Dan
Doon L001
Roadrunner
Dave

So I guess the MBC folks could meet early on Sunday morning at the usual pub, I think aorange has plans to join us (it'll be a long old trek for him!) then head for Leicester and join Muzzy on the A47? I'm not sure if Farmer Rob is coming too?

We could meet Andy and Roadrunner somewhere along the way, I guess Peterborough could be a final meet up before arriving in Wisbech all together? If folks from the Midlands would rather go down the A14 (which I think would make more sense) we could meet Andy and Roadrunner somewhere around Kettering and catch up with Muzzy at Peterborough. Where would be good for you guys?

Or... would it be easy just to set a time to meet in Wisbech? but I think that defeats the whole point of a "cruise"?

Just putting out ideas, what do you want to do?

Peterborough is certainly the obvious meeting point for me and Roadrunner and the rest of you. Clem it may even be best for you if you head up the M11 /A14/A1.

Peter, great news if you are coming on up too! :)

And Hunstanton sounds like a plan, I can go to the beach and wave to my mum across the wash  ;D ;D ;D

;-)up

Yes I am still hoping to come on this run if I can get my new engine sorted a bit more  ;-)up I am having a bit of fun with my carbs and modifying a distributor to run with my new engine, I do not want to cook it on a long run  ;)

It is the last of the hot sumer weather to day and then cold and wet over the weekend but I am hoping it picks up a bit for next weekend. It looks like there will be a north west wind on the day, as Hunstanton faces more or less west; it will no doubt be fresh on the sea front if you's decide to go there  :D :D :D

If you guys decide to come down the M6 to get on the A14, I can wait for you at that junction or I can meet up at Peterborough if you go the Leicester way!. Don't make any special plans for me, just plan a route to suit others and I'll join somewhere along the route.

Here is hoping for a good day and cruise, Rob

Well Peter, if your coming up from Kent (via M11 I assume) then I guess you and Clem meet at Stansted services? (Birchanger?)

Though Myself and Gordon could meet you there, its a bit of a cross country trek for me, so I reckon the A14 / A1 services just south of Peterborough where I assume others will meet up?

The cafe we were meant to be going to, was where his daughter was working but now she doesn't. So, "if you like we could meet up at the Costa Coffee place just up from me on the A47 (Wisbech Bypass) or we could meet up at my place and go from there." - Mel

So, after speaking with Mel the plan seems to be to meet up at Costa Coffee PE14 7BD, I've been told they have a fairly big car park so we can wait for the others to arrive and have a cuppa while we wait...

Someone name a time to meet then. The idea is to now have Fish 'n' Chips beside the sea, a play on the beach with some kites. Mel said he would bring his kite buggy out, which could be a laugh (at his expense!)  ;D and a cruise somewhere...  :-\

Nothing is set in stone and it just seems flexible, we can do anything, but that's a vague idea and it sounds good to me!

that postcode brings up a rather nice house on a country road on Google maps, not Costa coffee.

Do you have a full address for it, road name, road junction, town or something please.

Don't shoot the messenger folks  :-[ I checked it with Mel! He says actually is a Starbucks  ::) it's on the Wisbech bypass...

So the correct address:

A47, Wisbech By-Pass
Euro Garages Limited
Wisbech

Hazel,

Its located at the rear of the Shell Service Station on the last roundabout (A47 Wisbech, formerly a Little Thief err Chef lol) before you hit a dual carriageway heading towards King's Lynn/Hunstanton.

I may pop down to Sunny Hunny to meet you all on the sunday (minus a buggy)  :( but with the kiddies so they can actually see what I am doing in the garage lol.

So then, the MBC crew! Where are we going to meet on the Morning to collect each other up? Corley Services perhaps on the M6 just before J3?

And what kind of time?

Then Muzzy can rendevous along J2 or J3 on the A14 and get sucked along by our collective draft  ;-)up

Just a thought  :)

Yes MBC get some times and meeting places sorted! From reading replies, looks like your coming down the M6, onto A14(me join in), off at Thrapston and on to Peterborough, where Muzzy, Andy and others will meet us and on to Wisbech.

So what time departure time from Corley services? we need a meeting place at Peterborough and departure time!!

The weathers not looking too bad for it  ;-)up

Firstly what is the estimated time of arrival to Mels'?

Time the first person is leaving so as we can successfully join up en-route knowing estimated times that you will be passing?

Then approximate travelling time combined with any sudden break downs, poo stops, refreshments and rendezvous?

I want to cruise  8)

If meeting at Peterborough, I would suggest at the services on the roundabout of A15 and A1139 (Parkway). Do you remember ages ago on the old forum Mel talking about this sculpture? Well, its on that roundabout and its the point that most of us will pass to drive onto Wisbech.

Alternatively, then meet at the major services just off the A1M at Peterborough (A605/ A1M/A1139) and then we drive along the parkway up towards Wisbech.

Just googled it ...

yes if viewed from the A1m travelling north as you leave the exit for Peterborough before you get on the Parkway, its on the left (onto the A605) and yes there's a McDs there. (along with loads of others)

Hi Simon, of course you are very welcome. The services that Muzzy means is the one at the junction (sort of) in Eye but on the OLD crow land road, before the new bypass can in. There's a travel lodge, McDs and I think esso station.

(The other end of Eye from where the newer KFC /BP station. But am sure we will pass both in case we miss anyone)

Oh god, that Old crowland road was a nightmare - you can't help do some reasonable speeds on it but at night in the rain, it was a  scary road! So much better on the new one! But as Matt says for Wisbech we aint doing that one.

Right then....

OK so its fair to say the midlands lot are coming in via the A47 ?

In which case the services that Muzzy suggested are the logical ones as you guys don't come off the A47 that way.
Postcode is here: PE6 7SZ  (just to the left of the A47 with junction of Eye and the Crowland Road) For 10.15 then?

Those traveling from the south mids, we could meet up on the A1 (Me and Gordon) by the black cat roundabout.
And or meet others at the services on the A14/A1M

How does that work for folks?
Do we have a more certain list of those coming?
Weather at this point looks a little damp for the mid/late afternoon but morning is dry - Am sure we will be OK - Its still a bit of a long range forecast at present.  ;-)up

Hi Andy, I would have thought the Brummie lot are coming along the A14 and then coming in on the A605 through Oundle. I think there would only be Muzzy coming in on the A47.

The latest forecast is bad at the moment! there is a large depression coming in on sunday, very wet and windy, if this does not stay up north; numbers will be lacking  :( :( :(

Ok well I guess we will re-assess the weather on Saturday, but yes as things stand, realistically, the rain may put a bit of a damper on this trip.

Currently its looking like the rains will arrive at Wisbech by lunch time (or earlier) and staying put for the rest of the day.

Is it fair to say that we warn Mel, that we will check the weather forecasts on Saturday afternoon and subject to that we will say whether we are still heading over there or not? And if so arrange another date? Sorry  :'( :'( But I guess we need to be realistic on this one.

Im sure we can re-arrange it for another time soon when the weather is drier and Mels is more available too.

Meanwhile with a window of dry weather from Saturday Lunchtime until the evening at least. Anyone else want to play at all? Was thinking of driving up to lets say Coventry'ish sort of area and so you midlands lot could meet up and have a little cruise about? Any takers?

I guess we may be over the drink drive limit on sunday morning after a party saturday night but
a cancellation of the trip to the coast is probably a very good idea, cold and crisp is better than cold and wet.
