It's a shame that the SDBC have no time or love for the bigger shows  :'(
Apart from Volksworld not what I expected to hear from the chairman (you can do the stand)
we did put the flag up at euro bug in of the SDBC and I was asked if we was a new club
I told them the club had been going for years oh the guy said and started rolling
Off all the shows that the club he is in go to every year one of the other member said to
Him as he was walking past that's the buggy club that we see at Volksworld every year
So out of all the shows we the SDBC could only be Associated with Volksworld
They asked how many buggys we had taken to euro bug in I told them 2 Buggys and 2 campers
He Proceeded to tell me they had 41 cars there and over 70 members at the show

WOW

If only there was something a bit closer to home
So that some of us never drove for 2 hours
To stay for 1 hour as we have to be up for work at 5AM
And I don't know of any shows that are just Buggys that weekend
Unless there was something in the latest news
Letter we got hold on not had one since Volksworld

I can`t speak for the SDBC`s attendance, but on a personal level, I`ve had enough of "drug Jam" and that type of promoter show. Years ago, VW Action was a real family show too, but nowadays its just another Mecca for Drugs, Alcohol and the rave and party scene. They do indeed put on a spectacular party, but its almost as though its more about the night time music event and  the cars are now secondary. Centred around a drag strip with 20 second cars isn`t exactly a crowd puller either, and lets not forget the facilities - I`m not so sure many of those loo`s flushed on a thursday, let alone saturday, and sunday you go home with your legs crossed. But that said, Go and enjoy it Aaron, fly the flag for all of us, and you may just find some Buggy enthusiasts to have a good time with. Me, I`m hoping to go to NEWS that weekend, a purely Buggy event, and then to Swanage the weekend after (again, Buggys). But being stuck down the other end of the country also, I do understand what you are saying about having to drive everywhere - but thats why NEWS was placed in the middle, to give everyone an equal chance to get there.

Ok, you want a Big show? Remember to put Stoneleigh 2014 in your diary, as I am hoping to get as many Buggys there as I can, to Europes largest Kit Car show - proper old skool event

Guys this is not a NEWS thread, it's a bug jam one.

Back on topic

Personally for me in considering bug jam. Closer to home, more to do for myself and my teenage daughter (for her the idea of just camping in a field with nothing else to do is her idea of hell)

Also has an off road track and far more other things to wet your appetite than just the drag strip.

Didn`t realise they were running the off road track - in which case there will probably be some members from the muddy side there also (baja club) - try and say hi to them if you can as they too are a really good bunch

Having never been to drug jam as you all call it I can't comment on the show
I would love to go to NEWS but people won't travel for an hour so there's no chance they will go
160miles 3hours and its a long way on your own I think the people that have set NEWS up have done a great job

I won't be flying the flag at bug jam as It was Embarrassing Enough in another county with the Excuse that it was to far for members so I won't be embarrassing myself or the club on our doorstep

I did write a long message but it timed out
But to be honest it's Probaly best it did

Title: Re: Bug Jam 27 - 19/21 July

Aaron, it all depends what you want from a show - I have been doing the shows for nearly 25 years now, and I know the promoters quite well. Over that time, I have seen a lot of changes, and it is a far cry from the family VW shows that I remember of old. I like to see lots of cars, and mill around the campsite chatting with fellow enthusiasts whilst chilled out with a few beers.

If you are unfamiliar with Bug Jam, it is more of a music festival with some drag racing and a few good cars thrown in, but facilites are somewhat basic. If you have never been, then you ought to go to see what it is like. You will have a good time, it is a good event - but is it still a VW car show? Hmm, not so sure these days.

QuoteI won't be flying the flag at bug jam as It was Embarrassing Enough in another county with the Excuse that it was to far for members

To be fair, its not just the distance that prevents us from going to the Continental shows, its the same for them coming over here to ours, and not that many venture over here nowadays, or at least not to the shows I have been to. That boat trip is just too bloody expensive now, if towing a trailer tent, I`m afraid that the £400 cost for the 26 mile crossing just isnt feasable these days - back in the day when the crossing were £25 a pop, we did them all the time - just cannot justify the extra expense now.

Quote160miles 3hours and its a long way on your own

Yep, I hear you, but we have to do at least that whatever show we go to, but I don`t mind at all - I like driving my car. I thought that I may have travelled the furthest to NEWS last year, but Groove Champion almost doubled my journey distance coming from Scotland, and he didn`t even have a proper roof. Think of everyone that goes to Swanage, most have done well over 100 miles to get there

Anyway - this is going off topic -

Aaron, go to Bug Jam, take a camera and bring back lots of pictures and stories and most importantly

Have a good time  ;-)up

Yup they have indeed stopped you from going off site during the event to stop the inevitable bringing your mates in for free malarky.  Its got so big over the years that 2 years ago they actuall turned people away with tickets as they had over sold on the gates  :o

Bug Jam has always drawn the rave scene crowd in from its very beginnings. (it was started in the early 90's when rave was taking off big time after all and is situated in a big field).  I and several of my close friends have been going since it started and there was a downward spiral for a few years with the likes of Billy Nova and Kevin Escort turning up and ruining the weekend.  These were sorted fairly swiftly with a stern talking to  ;-)up. We now go on the Club camping side of the event which is much calmer than cattle class and has a curfew on noise being made after a certain time which keep the kiddies happy that are in bed.  We enjoy ourselves when we go as well as all the other events like: VW Action, European Bugin, Stanford Hall, Volkworld Show, Vanfest/Busfest, Dubs at the Hall,  Peepercorn, Whitenoise, Dubs at the castle, Van jamboree, Viva Skeg vegas and a load of other smaller shows for day trips.

All these shows we meet up with fellow dubbers and have a good weekend, but as we have grown older we have calmed down and wander round the sites chatting dub stuff and meeting liked minders whilst taking in a few beers of course  ;-)up  As with everything thou over the years the amount of us that go has dwindled due to family circumstances and generally getting older and wiser in some cases.

The offroad track is used a fair amount at the weekend and is always a good place to sit and watch some loons in Bajas or Buggys bouncing around and getting muddy or dusty.  Along with some blisteringly quick buggies on the drag strip that are always worth a watch for wheelie prowess  ;-)up

Then after after dark you get to go out and listen to some music,  this year the Hoosiers and Toploader are headlining the main stage.  Then theres a  Big Wig Disco in the Fuellers bar (always a good laugh) then when all that's finished off to the dance tent till 2am for Dave Pearces dance anthems (or off to bed) ;-)up

Sunday is just for the racing, digging through the autojumble and of course the jetcar which always puts a smile on my face every year.

So Aaron,  If you're going down there alone for the weekend give me a shout and we'll meet up.  ;-)up

I think everybody SHOULD go to Bug Jam at least a few times to experience it.

Yes, there are a lot of drugs about, but this is no different to a saturday night in your local town - you can say no, and have a good time without them.

Can I suggest that you guys who are going should meet up down the road and arrive together, as that way you get to camp together, and a weekend with beer / mates / music is worth doing, wherever it may be

Important "heads up" for anyone going to Bug Jam for the first time though - they are usually very strict about glass bottles, and it is not uncommon for them to search cars on the way in and confiscate any alcohol that is in glass. Beer, spirits etc etc.

Just make sure that whatever you take to drink is in tins or plastic, and mind the drunken security staff on the way out.

:P

Got my weekend tickets today.
I have been going on and off since number 2,the only trouble I have had is someone tripped over a tent guide rope one night and they even gave out some sort of drunken apology shout.
Looking forward to it, if anyone wants to meet up give us a shout be nice to meet a few people over a beer :-)

Aaron, just did a navigate on google maps.  Looks like you might be taking m25/M1 to Milton Keynes and then up from there.  Do you want to meet somewhere near MK?

At NEWS you will  have no trouble getting in as there are not gates to close and it's better value for money ;-)up

It would be if it was only 50 miles and not 150
The same distance for everyone would be Oxford
The next NEWS should be Oxford.  ;-)up

Have you not seen the temporary roof that Groove Champion made last year for the monsoon that was NEWS 2012 ? Man, that was a legendary effort to drive 350+ miles each way with that for weatherproofing.
:o

I thought we may have travelled the furthest at around 220 miles, but Paul nearly doubled our efforts !!

Looking forward to Amys pictures, tell her not to let me down   ;-)up

Dedication or a complete loss of marbles, either way, if I was wearing a hat I would take it off to this man

There were alot of buggys around but my phone kept dying at inopportune moments (damn smartphones >:()  Had a good weekend as usual.  Bands were good,  Fuellers Bars was amazing as usual.  And the Buggys doing wheelies in VWDRC were quick.

I'm going again next year but Club Camping with all my mates and families so we don't have so far to walk to the main arena.  ;-)up

Looks like the Volksrod guys did a good job with the build too (knew they would)

There were alot more Buggys around just didn't get the chance to get piccys.  The Volksrod ran up the strip before the end of Sunday but I didn't see it as a couple of my friends were suffering from the night before and wanted to head home lol.

I have to say it was a good weekend with plenty to do as usual and some nice people around to sit and talk VW for hours on end.  The area we were in camping had a good bunch of lively people around  ;-)up

The only downside was the lack of shops selling vw stuff on the strip side.  It seems to have gone more down the sunday market route witjh fake T Shirts and Sunglasses galore.

Show and Shine and Rat and shine had some amazing cars in it as usual.  All the cars going down the strip had me entertained for hours just sitting on the bank enjoying banter with the crowds.  ;-)up

Some great pictures there Weslar

Remember waking up beneath my mates Type 3 Squareback after a good night of Red label thunderbird and a chaser of Budwiser....thankfully it didn't rain and his Type 3 wasn't lowered, but did have some oil in my hair

But that was when I was a bit (OK a lot) younger and had hair. Must have been around BugJam 1, 2 or 3.. ;-)up went to all the early events in them days.
