I'm running a set of type 3 clocks in my buggy. One of them is the combined warning lights/fuel gauge pod.
I'm running a T1 sender in the tank and with some careful adjustment of the arm, I have the gauge reading full when the tank is full and empty when empty etc.
My quetion is, did the Type 3 setup ever include a vibrator (I can't see one built into the gauge as fr as I can see...) and what is the function of one? I've read several differing accounts of their function, with some saying they stabilise the voltge from the fuel gauge to stop the gauge going up and down as the fuel slops about in the tank. Others say its to reduce the voltage to the gauge. Admittedly, that conversation seemed to be centred around a T1 set up.....
Any ideas guys please?

Not seen one on a VW setup myself, but my understanding of them is that they should dampen down the rapid changes of the signals from the float arm to give a more stable signal to the gauge. Most guages I have seen though, are fairly well damped already - if you briefly short out the float sender to give a full scale deflection on the gauge - if the needle moves in fairly swift and jerky movements, then a damper may be required - however, if it moves in a kind of delayed, yet very smooth operation, then it may not be needed.
At least thats my understanding of it.

Dave, yes, that was my understanding too.
Plenty of T1 wiring diagrams show the vibrator. None of the T3 ones do. Which leads me to two possible conclusions.
Either the T3 system had a vibrator built into the gauge or sender, or, it didn't have one at all.....
it may be to do with the sender unit as the T3 had a tube with the float inside and not a lever arm and float like a beetle.
