Title: Leaking swing axle side cover
Post by: Ioan Ford on November 02, 2026, 06:51:56 PM
Hi all. At my wits end. Rebuilt my 1300 AB box with new shims, gaskets all meeting standard specs and settings. Ive got a gearbox oil leak coming from lower bolts on drivers side panel. All 6 bolts are really tight. I swapped the half shaft complete and guess what? Same problem!! What could it be? Ps- it's not the boot- it's the drivers side side cover leaking from bottom of the plate! Arghhhh!!

Have you used any sealant ?

No not yet. I saw some comments in the past stating that hymolar liquid gasket helps. It could be a last resort but I'd like it sealed the proper way if possible.  I appreciate that these items are old and there's wear and flex on some components. Sealant would mean draining, degreasing and drying thoroughly to get a good adhesion. Biggish job but I just might have to bite the bullet! The joys....!!!!

No sealant required. Have you used the correct number of gaskets ? Is the cover warped at all ?   Double check this. You should be able to seal these both sides with ease. (Always tighten the nuts down in a horizontally opposite fashion a bit at a time. No torque setting required just a gentle nip up.).
