Post by: bulliporker on January 21, 2024, 12:33:42 PM
re doing the clutch cable on my swb  buggy  i can remember   someone posted   on here   a  shortening kit   where it clamps onto the cable     not the rubbish  bugpack part    shure it was of a   boat or something   but cant find it   is there a search   facility on this     site       already had a original cable shortened to   16 inch  same as to what my   chassis is shortened to    and when fitted is to long   : dont really want to   use the clamp method    as tried this years   ago  with 3 clamps   and due to the uprated clutch   it  ocasionally   wouldent hold ,

Looking on the facebook page someone suggested this for a clutch cable.  There will be other size ones for accelerator.

That states 6mm thread and the VW wing nut is 7mm.

The ones buggy builders posted about are Swageless Stud Terminals from GS Products

https://www.gsproducts.co.uk/stainless-steel-wire-rope-swageless-stud-terminal/ (https://www.gsproducts.co.uk/stainless-steel-wire-rope-swageless-stud-terminal/)

There's a whole range of wire terminations from them here, none are 7mm though

Mmmm    These swageloc fixings originated in the marine industry..... I have used many of them until I came across Jim of JJ cables. Thats all I use now as you get a cable shortened precisely to your need and with correct style ends/fixings. (First used JJ because a pro shortened cable is all that IVA allows but it well worth the effort to have something you know is going to work first time/every time). (Each to their own  :D).

7mm is an oddity. Ford introduced 7mm socket head to their motors many years ago and it was a pain looking for a 7mm allen key as a one off purchase. (Readily available now).

I used JJ Cables, Banbury. Sent them a new cable and got them to shorten it.
For the clutch they shorten from the pedal end so there's no problem using the VW adjuster wingnut.
