Volksworld Show dates for next year are 29 & 30 March 2014, at Sandown Park. This is the weekend when the clocks change. Easter weekend bank holiday is 18-21 April 2014.
Lets hope the organisers recognise its the 50th anniversary of the beach buggy and do something special inside. Matt has already written to Volksworld about this; waiting for a response.
Still no response so fingers crossed. I've basically thought through the whole show for them for free so no excuses really!!!
Suggestion - It may be that a willing volunteer goes into their editorial office in Croydon to discuss if you don't make any progress.
I'd be willing but unsure how to arrange such a thing! Will write a follow up letter in a few weeks if I don't hear back. Might be worth other people writing it too.
Could a road trip work, with a showing in force ;)
good idea i will get the trailer lol ;-)up
Bet it snows, still only a year away hurry up lol.
I have a number for someone in the offices at volksworld,
I will try an make contact. What would you all like to know? and I can ask, also do we want them to attend anything????????
Sam
I had a conversation mike Pye the week before last.
They are in discussions of what to do, and he is going to let me know if they decide to do anything.
Great. I have he no response from any of my emails which is a little disappointing but at least the message is getting through
What sort of thing did you have in mind ?
Personally I think it will be a shame if its the usual 3 or 4 brand new pro-built buggys on display.
That's not what it was all about when Bruce started it.
I like to see more home made, lived in, used cars up there. Loaded up with camping gear etc.
This was the letter I wrote
http://www.beachbuggy.info/index.php/topic,638.msg9422.html#msg9422
Thought it would be great to have a line up of buggies. And ultimately to have Bruce come over and give some talks.
Hi.if anyone wants to use the tunnel you can get my discount if you use higginsm26661
Volksworld have contacted me and plans are taking place. If you have any ideas I will take them to the team to see what can be arranged
Ideas already mentioned on here by Parmaynu.
Also, try to get the guy who owns the red Thomas Crown buggy replica (reg 462 XUP) who lives in UK (Kent ??) to display it inside at the show.
Large display of Manx buggies inside.
Volksworld mag to pay for Bruce & Winnie Meyers to fly from California to UK to be special guests at the show, all expenses paid.
Anymore news on this guys
It would be great to have a full line up of Buggys
maybe they should have a Buggy Club section, so all the clubs can make a representation in the halls, with buggies on show, as described earlier, with all levels of buggies and showing the range of buggies styles etc. from the early kits through to the modern pressings.
Different stages of restoration. I am sure you have already covered this in the communications with VolksWorld.
In truth we could take over the show (not that they will let that happen), with the history of our particular VW class.
I missed the last couple of years due to work commitments (someone has to keep pictures on your television even if you are not there to watch it because you are out at a show somewhere..!!) but NOT missing the 2014 show (TV can go to black for that weekend - dam it ;D ;D)
excited already (Sad old fart)
Still no news on this?
I haven't herd from any of my emails and there is no mention of it in this months magazine.
I'm a Manx Club member - The good news is that Bruce & Winnie have said "yes" to the invitation from the magazine to attend the Volksworld Show in March 2014. The not confirmed bit is that the magazine now have to work out the costs etc to bring them over, dependant upon the budget I guess, so we wait to hear (hopefully!).
So the magazine have invited them over?!
That's amazing!
Just an idea may be we can get as many of Mel's tagged Manx's and Manxster's together to greet them on the club display, perhaps with Mel after all he is an equal part of promoting the interest of buggies in the UK...its a shame the event is so early in the year or we could organise our own MONB.
How many of you are going to commit to bringing your buggies out rain or shine to this event??? Is this going to be our 50th celebration??? Has anyone started to think hard on next years celebration or are we going to miss the boat??? Seems from the above that Volksworld are playing things close to their chest (or is this going to be taken over by Flatlands again????)I'm also a Manx club member but here we are a club of all sorts of buggies and so the SDBC stand should be a celebration of the History of all types in the UK, should we behaving an early picnic event to coincide and then a cruz to the event after all a buggy is all about driving. we can organise the biggest uk buggy cruz (Guinness records) and perhaps raise a few pennies for Tonys charity???
Inigo...
I am in. The show is our focus for the rebuild of my GP2, especially as will be the "special" show.
Now need to sort some type of roof for mine, in the planning. "Rain or Shine"
;-)up ;-)up ;-)up ;-)up ;-)up ;-)up ;-)up ;-)up ;-)up
I'm in too rain or shine :D planning on / hoping to have a roof of some shape or form by then :-\
If not the show's not far from me so I will just have to get my North Face parka on with goggles ;-)up ??? ::)
My son will be coming plus I think a couple of his mates want to come too so at least they can get wet and keep my seats dry ;D ;D
Yep - got to be worth it! OK yes ideally its about Manxs of course, but am sure he would welcome GP, Sidewinders, prowlers, Manta Rays, hustlers etc. too. ;-)up

I would hope it is the celebration of a breed "The Beach Buggy" and not just about the Manx mark, of course it was the start and that cannot be taken away, nor would we want it to be.
There will be a huge amount of VW people at the show that will not know the diversity of the Buggy and hopefully the more variables we get to participate, the more people will be able to appreciate the buggy and the continued following it has.
I am not ranting, just vocalising......... :D :D ;D ;D ;D
Well it sound like they are thinking of buggy things which can only be a good thing. Hopefully they can dedicate a substantial area for us to cram as Manx buggies in as possible!
I am dreaming of showing mine to Bruce but there is still so much to do on it!
Does anyone know if Volksworld are talking to any of the buggy clubs regarding a bigger display area, this forum appears to me to be the biggest collection of members so why are they not hear talking to us Buggy folk, has anyone made contact with them and got a response if not can anyone get some details up here and we can all bug them.
Interestingly, Zoe at the House of Dub had been pestering me for club (house of Dub ones) photos because Volksworld are desperate for club features and have been on at her for one. So not only will I talk to her about using her contact to get buggy club meet photos BUT also see if there is any leverage for the show too.
Absolutely no promises as I don't know much more than that but its worth a try!
I have contacted Adrain at VW mag see what we can find out.
I contacted Winnie Meyers in California last week; still no definite offer as yet from Volksworld mag to pay for them to be guests of honour at the March 2014 show.
I see that in the latest Volksworld mag (Jan 2014) there's no mention of any special buggy displays/celebration/etc. Anyone know any different?

Guess buggies don't sell mags :( Type 2's do :o
Anyone got any news? Nothing mentioned in the magazine. I feel a disappointment coming on!
I've still not heard anything more about Bruce & Winnie Meyers attending. Volksworld editorial staff return after the Xmas break Mon 6 Jan 2014 according to their website, so we live in hope!! Nowt about them coming in the Feb 2014 Volksworld.
Just bought vwt mag and the volksworld show advert confirms Bruce Meyers will be at the show. ;-)up
He will be signing autographs and giving interviews.
Buggy goodies to be won all weekend :)
More info on this forum in "Banter Box" - Bruce Meyers at Volksworld
Does anyone know if Bruce Meyers will be holding a seminar/talk at Volksworld Show?
I might be wrong but I don't think anyone knows what is happening, what day or day's they will be there or what is planned talk or event-wise ???
I guess the only people who would be able to answer is Volksworld :-\
Again, just a rumour I have picked up on, but I heard somewhere that the Volksworld organisers are allocating timed slots for those wanting to meet/chat with Bruce, so it may not be as easy as you hope to gain access to the guy.
It would be good to present him with a pack of Top Trumps though, and get a picture - is anyone going that could possibly pull this off for us?
???
See you all there ;-)up

Info off Volksworld mag website below. Bruce was actually here in UK last in May 2000 to view Mel Hubbards production of authorised Meyers Manx bodies & to give a talk at the SDBC clubnight.
Bruce Meyers, the founding father of the VW Beach Buggy, is making the trip from his home town of San Diego to attend The VolksWorld Show. Bruce has not been to the UK since the early 60′s so we are truly honoured by his presence, especially to mark the 50th anniversary of the Meyers Manx. Look out for him around the show and by the Buggy build, where he will be signing autographs and relaying memories from the past.
Thinking of taking the buggy down on the Sunday if the weather is good, who do I speak to about having a space on the club stand ?
You can email them theteam@sdbc.co.uk and I'm sure they will get back to you
Be great to see you again, just don't forget your tools & a spare accelerator cable ;-)up :D ;D
Lol ;-)up
lol, thanks, definitely won't forget my tools this time!
Hi Guys
If you would like to show your buggy outside the show on the SDBC club stand, please put your name below and what day you would prefer. If you can do all weekend please put both. Thanks Emma ;-)up
Hi Emma (or Gary),
Do we know what times the buggies have to be on site and allowed to leave. I think I remember that they had to be on the stands before 9am on the day and not able to be moved until 5pm? Or something similar?? :)
See you all on the Saturday as it's Kai's birthday the day before ;-)up ;-)upend this is part of his birthday weekend
If you would like to show your buggy outside the show on the SDBC club stand, please put your name below and what day you would prefer. If you can do all weekend please put both. Thanks Emma
Emma : I assume you have to be a paid-up member of SDBC to exhibit on the club stand??
I can do both days
Saturday : Marathon Manx
Sunday : Marathon Manx

Hi Mel,
Club members do get preferential selection to show orf thier buggy's on the stand and free entry, but, as is usual not enough are willing to commit for selection so we tend to open up the spaces to those who are willing to exhibit and to commit to attend on the day. The more that offer the better the selection and the more possibility to sneak one or two more in and have a bigger selection. As in the past mine has been on the stand regularly because we have been let down by those that have promised but not turned up on the day and as I live fairly locally I have stepped in to make up numbers, last year in particular we only managed four buggy's over the weekend and mine was on its own on the Sunday. If we cant manage to get some buggy's on the "Buggy Club" stand how disappointing. :-[
H
Id be happy to attend either of the days! I probably should become a member of the SDBC too!
H, mine and Ollie's have been at the show for the last 3 years.
We are always willing to put them on the stand but..
Nobody likes to fill in for a trailer queen that won't be there if there is any chance of rain.
Ollie has an op booked for that week and mine looks like a cheese and ham toasty so it'll be good to see some new plastic fantastics on display (if it don't rain).
I was hoping to bring mine down, but it's not looking like it's going to be ready now :(.
I got let down for the last 2 weekends which has seriously put me back.
Show info; opening times & tickets here:

Several helpers working well thisafternoon (Friday)...large SDBC club tent all set up. Bruce Meyers has been seen! There's a 30 mins talk "50 years of the buggy" I assume by Mr.Meyers, in the seminar area (on Sat & Sun), thats where they do then engine build seminars, etc. "Old Red" & some very interesting buggies from Europe are on display. Flatlands have another unique buggy with trick stuff.
Looking foword to the photos of the show being posted 8)

Nice to see that Quatro made it over. You finally got to see a real monocoque eh? :D
Yes finally! First and only time I imagine. Until the release of mine!
It was a little tucked away so couldn't get all the detailed pictures I wanted. The lines of the bonnet are just amazing!
Thank you for posting the pictures ;-)up

Had a great day there today, good stand set up,well done members, and met a few faces too, nice to see ya.
So did any body manage to give Bruce a pack of top trump cards ?
Yes Bruce was handed a pack when he visited the SDBC stand, he thought they were great ;-)up ;-)up
Look like you all had a fantastic day - great pictures
Did anyone get a picture of Bruce with the Top Trumps then ? ???
Did the Flatlands Manxter build go ahead? Any pics?
It did but I didn't take photos as was in its early stages when I saw it. Was just a reassembly really. I chatted with Mark for a bit and he said it was a job to get them to work slowly enough!
My thanks also to all those who came along, & the 50th anniversary cake was a great idea.
Thanks also to parmaynu for originally making the suggestion many months ago to see if Bruce Meyers would come to the show.
Was a good day Saturday though very busy, difficult to get around the trade stands and especially the swap meet tables! Saw Bruce early on and got my signed poster which is now framed on the office wall ;-)up
Took some pics though most are similar to others shown so won't bore you but spotted a couple of buggies in the car park and a couple more heading in to the show ground

He normally has some nice touches on his own stuff.

Seb Quixote's Manxter.
Don't know which one was Marks. There was a nice brown one from Europe with loads of porsche bits on and firestone wide oval tyres.
Marks show buggy this year was the jeans buggy which was really trick
And finished to his usual standard ps top 20 winner.

wasnt he selling it..or I could be mixed up with someone else.
Jeans buggy did look cool. Would have left the running boards off personally. I love what he did with the steering wheel, much like he did on the marathon buggy

SDBC, when will the winner of SDBC membership be announced from the raffle you were doing over the weekend?
Sorry Hazel I was informing the winners first before putting it on here. The raffle was drawn at 4.30 on Sunday.
The winners:-
Years free membership - Jack the bug (David Higgs)
Whippy Aireals - Didgeman (Les), Clem, Ruffion (Dave Bates)
Hoddies - Kenny, dj-rix, Jonny
Beanies - Richard Harrison (friend of gary stimson), Jazzy, Louise Higgs.
There will be another raffle at the SDBC picnic in June.
Just looking at the top 20 from the show and 4 buggies (if you include the steam roller thingy) - not a bad percentage!

I take it Ludicruz didn't get there?
Phil, was on the lookout for you but didn't see you to talk too. Hopefully a cruise in the buggies soon?
Ludicruz was there, but no not with his buggy. Was good chatting with him and his plans. I think competition is put back to next year. BUT.... I did plead with him to bring the rolling chassis to stoneleigh if he could. In fact I think many of us would like to see the work he has done so far before all that craftsmanship is hidden by the body.

That would be great. I think some of the Kit Car sector think of Beach Buggies as a poor relation, no real work put in, just a body swap. Ludicruz's chassis would give them something to think about. As it would at any motor show, hotrod, VW, whatever.
I some more pictures with Bruce, some have been distributed to those in them, others might not have... If you want them, I can email them...
