Not sure if right section, but just went for an MOT and supposedly they have brought in that they have to actually locate the VIN Number on the chassis of the car.
Had My Car over 15 years and never been asked to find it before and guess what could not locate it, probably removed or sitting under the body somewhere along the tunnel
Any one know where i can get a Vin plate stamped so i can stick it on the car in case this starts to get more and more serious

Your buggy does not have a VIN number they did not exist before the 80's and the mot manual says no need to check numbers only the number plates
Print this out and show them section 0.2 Pre August 1980 you don't need one.

Yes, they've always had it stamped on the tunnel, a good wire brushing usually reveals it.

This is how the modern VIN works and it is common across all makes of vehicles the old VW chassis number is a simpler item for VW's own build identity back in the day,

And the testing manual says pre 1980 no requirement to check it which is good news for some.
There are some exceptions to the tunnel stamped vin numbers on VW air cooled vehicles. Not common but I have come across a few over the years. Ignoring the fact that a vin number is easily removed completely from the tunnel by shady establishments the reasons are .... Complete "chassis" was available as a legitimate spare part from VW agents in the UK. Some South African imports also have no tunnel vin.
As others have said talk to the mot guy again refering to the links already posted.
A big no no.... Don`t be tempted to stamp in yourself. Firstly you need authorisation from DVLA and the authorisation paperwork to present to an approved "workshop" that has been certified by DVLA to carry the job out to stated standards. ie character height etc. The "asterick" "character stamp for either side of the vin number is not easily obtained.
Always go the easy route... You don`t need the vin on the chassis so keep smiling ;-)up ;-)up
