Hi I am a newbie from the U.S. California ,I have a 1961 Humbug can am,in the U.K. they made them as Beaujangles Can Am.I am interested in finding out more about your cars in comparison to mine and things alike,I have found out more about so far about my car from books etc than in the U.S

Thank you for your PM's and can see there is a lot of similarities between our two cars, but the biggest difference is that yours drives on the wrong side of the road!
Apart from Google, a good source for reference on Humbugs and Beaujangles Can Am's is James Hales Buggy books.

One thing in your favour living in California is your weather. Woke up this morning with ice on the windowscreen!

Hi That was what I was saying I have already got all editions of James Hales books and most info I have found is from the U.K..I cannnot find any of the magazines that were supposed to have articles etc. about Humbugs those 6 -8 Beaujangles Can Ams have more info on them then my Humbug that I have been able to find.Las Vegas is in the middle of the desert? I live in San Diego area as far as I know there are V W clubs with buggys included but I do not go to the desert so not sure about buggy clubs in the area.I am sending photos and videos so you can see my Humbug.Nice hearing from all you members means a lot,interesting trying to figure out what you are talking about(sidewinder ).I think I will like this group do not know how much I will ost or be on it I hate texting and writing e mails no a typist (slow and old) but young of mind.Out for now.Larry

Larry, slow and old ( mature ) but young at heart you fit the average member profile very well :D
Sidewinder is not a snake but a British buggy the Prowler is the same basic shape the main difference is the back end over the motor you will se photos in members buggies and perhaps the buggypedia section.
This is my sister Sally's Sidewinder, quite a typical buggy shape, wider at the back than
a Manx and has a different rear wing profile...

Thanks for posting pics ,most of these are lower pics,looks better and running needs wiring,to be able to drive around very far.Sp far just up and down my street still working out the way it's running.Engine was frozen when purchased seems to run pretty good going to check compression to see if any problems.Seems to run down th street good no smoking,trying to get idle to settle down then die or slowing down for a stop or bump.Hope you like my Humbug as they say saw it fell in love had to have it.Trying to figure out how to send videos of going down my steet.Larry
looks identical to the can am does it have the rear body valence to cover the back end and a deck lid. Video wise host them on you tube or alike and adding a link is easiest.
It should look like a Beaujangles,someone got a hold one and shipped it to U.K. and made a mold a Beaujangles Can Am they came up with a better name and made how ever made they made 1-8?Except the made the modifications to suite your driving style,weather to suit your conditions over there.They are Cousins of the Atlantic thats why they look identical.Different mothers.
Not much about Can Ams but here's a thread about Beaujangle from another forum that I've contributed a little to and yes, I still want to build a tunnel buggy!

Thanks for all the welcomes right now am trying to figure out a intermit problem with my carb .Starts fine take up street for test ride at first runs fine then when slowing out dies.Checking and trying to adjust. Carb it keeps dying ,coil seems to be running hot .Let set for a while start over same thing again.???I am not sure if right place to post,that is why I am a newbie.Thanks enjoy your site
No ifea of your ambient air temperature but it could be manifold icing. You may need pre heaters in the manifold or a warm air pick up pipe. Other than that could be fiel starvation or electrical failure like the coil over heating.
Snoopy My area temp is about 70s some days 80s ,southern California,warm day I tried this NO iceing.I think your warm coil is the problem ,I am going to try a resistor before the coil to see if that works next buy a new coil .At first I had some vacuum leaks that made it worse but fixed them.Thanks for the help I let everyone know how that works .
A balast resistor on the 12v coil feel will weaken the spark. Folks used a 9v coil with a resistor for easier starting with 12v to the 9v coil on cranking but the main feed went through a resistor so when running it got 9v. Condensor may also cause problems and give a larger spark at the points burning them out by errosion. 70 degrees is nice, sat here with heating on and 3 degrees C outside.

Hi switched coil right at first coil ran cooler after a little longer ran hotter but ran better then starting dieing. Next day put on ballast resistor coil ran cooler and able to get to idle lower and better.Need to redo wiring so have been just running straight off battery,was running better but started running funny battery was getting run down.Have not had time to try again might get to it today been busy with regular stuff. Let know as I get back to it thanks for all the help.Larry
