Many of the Newbies and IBW Virgins out there will have heard the rest of us talk about the International meets, well believe me when I say that the Dutch one is not to be missed. It is open to everybody and it would be great to see just how many we can get over there this year.

If you are unsure what to expect, then take a look at my write up of my own very first IBW back in 2014 (also Netherlands)

We tend not to use the Eurotunnel, because at some point we need to sleep and leave the Buggies somewhere safe in an unfamiliar environment - the overnight ferry is brilliant for that, and the party atmosphere of us all traveling and cruising together for a good few hundred miles just cannot be beaten. The Ferry also takes us straight to our destination country.

But above all else, and this is the very important one . . . . .  we avoid France   bleugh

I`m going to start hassling Stenna next week   ;)

Hi Dave

It seems you might be the one to ask...... For someone like me who's never been on one of these trips and is definitely coming with this time, leaving from Hull, what is the actual process?
Do we need to book and pay on this link http://www.algemenebuggyclub.eu/IBW2019/info_eng.php
Or is everything sorted together at once?
And also, how does ferry booking and payment work?
And any other info that you can think of.

Cheers
Glenn

Glenn the Northern crew use Hull buggybaggy or Krug will advise on that specific port. But booking is through the ferry website or phone no idea if they try and arrange a discount because of the numbers going.

We fill in the IBW entry form and e mail it to them and put a comment on pay on gate so they know we are going and thus the numbers but we pay cash on the gate as some banks charged for an international payment.

Booking the food makes life easier as it saves  carrying all the required cooking kit apart from the tea n coffee stuff.

Have a read of motoring in Holland rules and requirements although a list will appear.

Hook of Holland ferry arrives at 08.00, Newcastle the Amsterdam one is 09.45  and Hull to Rotterdam 08.15 so the route would need to go north from Rotterdam to pick up Pepsi on route then cross the big Afsluitdijk dam on the way to IBW a reverse of the route last time we were there.

you could join the Northern crew and Scottish contingent sailing from Hull for the shorter ferry crossing and get more buggy cruise convoy miles in.

There is plenty of time to get to IBW after we land friday so there is no rush.

For the Newbies and IBW Virgins looking on, this trip is open to absolutely anyone and everyone - the more the merrier

What to expect . . .

Those of you from the Midlands to the Southern half of the country will meet up at various locations (to be arranged) on the 6th June 2019  to arrive at Colchester for a teatime Pizza / whatever before boarding the Overnight ferry from Harwich to Holland.

Those of you from the Midlands to the Northern half of the country will meet up at various locations (to be arranged) on the 6th June 2019  to catch the Overnight ferry from Hull to Holland.

Both ferries will dock within an hour or so of each other, and we will meet up at the nearest Motorway Services before taking an epic journey across Holland at a leisurely pace with loads of stops and hopefully we will pitch camp mid to late afternoon where the beer will start flowing.

The Dutch are great hosts, and entertainment will follow - Saturday night will be some form of fancy dress no doubt and sunday will be nursing the hangovers.

Monday will be a leisurely jaunt back to the docks, taking in some sights on the way, and hopefully a stop for some of us (Harwich Ferry) on the now legendary Bing Beach Cafe and Sand Dunes where we will then board the overnight ferry to arrive back in Blighty on Tuesday morning.

More details will materialise in due course, but the ferries do book up fast, so please do not leave it too late to come and join us

Think about it guys -
You are in a beer filled hall full of drunken people, and many of then will be German. So you are seriously suggesting that we wear skoolgirl skirts after seeing what some of our members have endured in previous years?
::)

I for one will probably not be brave enough to wear a skirt to IBW  :o

For information only - not as something to panic about just yet

Taken from   https://www.gov.uk/guidance/international-driving-permits-for-uk-drivers-from-28-march-2019

Driving abroad before 28 March 2019

Currently, UK licence holders who live in the UK:

need an international driving permit (IDP) in addition to their UK driving licence to drive in some countries outside of the EU and EEA
can drive in all EU and EEA countries using their UK driving licence.

The UK currently issues 2 types of IDP to UK licence holders who are resident in the UK: the 1926 IDP and the 1949 IDP.

Driving abroad from 28 March 2019

From 28 March 2019, the UK will issue a third type of IDP: the 1968 IDP. At the same time, the type of IDP that some countries recognise will change.

From 29 March 2019, in the event that there is no EU exit deal, you  need an IDP in addition to your UK driving licence to drive when visiting EU and EEA countries

What type of IDP will I need?

The type of IDP you need depends on the country you are driving in.

Countries that have signed up to the UN conventions on road traffic issue and recognise IDPs.

From 28 March 2019, countries that are party to the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic will no longer recognise 1926 and 1949 IDPs issued by the UK. Instead you may need a 1968 IDP to drive in these countries.

Countries that have ratified a road traffic convention are not obliged to require visiting foreign drivers to carry an IDP. So, in some countries it may be possible to drive with a UK driving licence without an IDP.

Check which type of IDP you need to ensure that you have the correct documentation for your travels.

How to get an IDP

Until 31 January 2019, you can get 1926 and 1949 IDPs from 89 UK post offices, or by mail order from the AA or the RAC.

From 1 February 2019 you will only be able to get 1926, 1949 and 1968 IDPs over the counter from 2,500 UK post offices. Each IDP will cost £5.50.

Driving in the EU and EEA from 29 March 2019

If there is an EU exit deal, UK licence holders will be able to continue to drive in all EU and EEA countries using their UK driving licence.

In the event that there is no EU exit deal, the government will seek to put in place new arrangements for EU and EEA countries to recognise UK driving licences when people are visiting, for example on holiday or business trips. Until such arrangements are in place, UK driving licence holders may also need an IDP to drive in EU and EEA countries.

Each EU and EEA country will decide if they require a foreign driver to have an IDP, in addition to a driving licence, to legally drive in their country.

In some circumstances you may need more than one IDP. For example, when driving through France (1968 IDP) to Spain (1949 IDP).

On 29 March 2019, if there is no EU Exit deal or any other relevant agreement, you may need a new 1968 IDP to drive in these EU and EEA countries:

Austria    Belgium    Bulgaria    Croatia    Czech Republic
Denmark    Estonia    Finland    France    Germany
Greece    Hungary    Italy    Latvia    Lithuania
Luxembourg    Netherlands    Norway    Poland    Portugal
Romania    Slovakia    Slovenia    Sweden

On 29 March 2019, if there is no EU Exit deal, you may need a 1949 IDP to drive in these EU and EEA countries:
Cyprus    Iceland    Ireland    Malta    Spain

Me and Kaz booked for Harwich, when I tried to get the discount I was told our link at the Ferry company no longer works there and that all allocated spaces for the discount have gone.
I've managed to get another 20 passenger.slots or 10 buggies so if you are thinking of going but not yet booked you need to get a wiggle on as anymore slots once these have gone are doubtful.

As for fancy dress, I'm in for men in tights or recycling the Knights and fair maidens.

Most of these are elasticated waists and a very loose fit

Found these for the ladies that match the mens and come in larger sizes and ladies have the option of wearing leggings underneath.

Just bumping this one for a reminder to those who have not seen it yet

IMPORTANT IBW NEWS

Right Buggers, after a good bit of consultation over costumes at the NEC, it has been decided to go with the Hippy costumes. As in previous years, we always make an impact when we all dress the same and these are the costumes we are aiming for.  Make sure you also accessorize them with wigs etc, and I reckon that everybody (including the women) should go with big moustaches too (we can mingle amongst the Germans then) I`ll leave you to decide which gender costume you want to go for !!

Thread rationalised after trying to find one post out of 24 pages, #Getting closer now so here are the routes we used last time A12 A28 up and A7 over the dam return. We will need to put up the first meet service area and other stops  going up. Return will be services on the dam and Bing Beach club at the end plus stops on route.

Just looking at some stop/ refuel and catch up places so they can be put into sat navs then anyone with an up to date one can lead the convoy for a while.

First meet for both ferries
A20 Petrol DP DE VINK 2913 Lw Nieuwerkerk     23 miles from Hoek and a fraction more from Rotterdam Port.

A28 Esso  8070NA Nunspeet  62 miles from last stop

N33 firezone Zuidzijde 9452 VB Rolde  64 miles  from last stop

IBW Mausel 9635 TE Noordbroek 31 miles from last stop

Way home.
Shell A7 8406 QQ Tijnje 45 miles

on the dam E22 A7  Texaco Petrol 8766TS Breezanddijk  100Miles from IBW

Shell Bospoort A4 2wz 2353 ZW Leiderdrop 50 miles from last stop

Bing Beach Club 81 Zeekant 3151 HW Hoek van Holland to get food and tyres on the sand. 34 miles from last stop.

Thoughts on route and stops and does it work in your sat navs put in as routes or individual trips.

100 miles may be cutting it fine for some fuel tanks, especially if some of the fuel stations are closed on the bank holiday and we then have to run about looking elsewhere

Quite a few ran out (or got uncomfortably close) a couple of years back in Germany

No problem Dave include the " A7 shell if needed"   that cuts the 100 miles in about half and being motorway services they will be open. the  N33 firezone is also 24 hour

Just been chatting with A-Plan with regards to EU travel and they don`t have any new information either.

To save hundreds of phone calls, they have asked me to put something on here

Until such time that we physically leave the EU, they will not be issuing the Green Cards for European travel as our documents should suffice. We are advised to take all of our documents (which we are legally required to do anyway) as they are currently recognized by the EU.

As the whole situation is fairly fluid as to whether we are in or out of the EU when we travel, it has been advised to wait until 2 weeks before we travel to see if we are coming out, and if so, only then to think about green cards being needed.

If we do end up being out of the EU when we leave, then we will also require an International Driving Permit, which can be obtained over the counter at a main post office on production of a driving license & passport for ID, a Passport photo and a sum of around £8

Its going to be a last minute thing before we know anything, and no point panicking until then - currently, we are still in the EU and nothing has changed.

;-)up

IDP is £5.50 at PO.

I got one last week as I have the old style of Driving Licence without photo and think an IDP will be slightly easier for Dutch police to understand.

By all documents I take it you mean MOT, Insurance and DL but not V5.

Bern looking at the proposed/suggested stops on the way. Just for info, the 3rd petrol stop looks like 2 pumps and an auto paypoint, i.e. no shop or attendant, so I guess payment will be by card only. There is a large layby for parking up for a bit though.

Do we have a definitive IBW attendance list this year as I seem not to have many takers for t-shorts this year compared to other years?

I don't want to get there and then people say 'have you got any spares' or 'I wished I had ordered one' or 'I never knew you had to order them'

Thanks

No idea who is leading and the timing for stops,  pizza hut Colchester is usually 6pm ish and the M6 drive past meet about 1 pm so Fourwentways must be around 4.30.

Have a look at previous IBW threads the route is the same but Maccy D on the A14 may get missed out so we may be 30 mins earlier on the rest.

No need to add the extra fuel stop Dave, traditionally we use the fuel stop around the rear of Pizza hut anyway  ;-)up

The bridge flyover that we used to meet on was getting dangerous when it was just me and Snoopy, but with a few more cars now is not really feasible. As long as the Chorley crowd leave dead on 13:00 then they will catch us up just before we congregate at Macdonalds

Hopefully, we know by the weekend if we will be able to make this or not but doesn't look good. No more Greggs photos from us in the future and I'll be carrying carrot sticks in my tin rather than biscuits  ;D

Lee I have to say I really wish I'd thought of your selfie. And I'm deeply impressed you had the attire in your wardrobe

This is the side of Allan's behaviour the nurses have to worry about

never gave it a thought when he was popping indigestion pills at the weekend as being out with the crew nibbles could cause trapped gas, bad news is you will now be off the Mrs Snoopy nibbles list at meet with the high calories treats the good news is somebody else will get more unless we go for a five a day menu base.
Hope all goes well Friday and that IBW is possible even if it needs to be as a passengers if there are spare seats in other buggies .

After seeing Father Lee's thoughtful offer of bedside spiritual support for Allan I realised I knew someone who might be able to offer some more practical bedside help.

If Allan isn't out of that hospital by noon Monday then all bets are off.

A massive thank you to everyone from both Allan and I for all the messages and jokes we've been sent. You can always rely on our buggy family to make us laugh  ;D  I have to say, Hugh this is hilarious and has brightened up Allan's and my day, especially after discovering it actually is you dressed up  ;D  ;D  ;D  Do I see some sort of challenge between you and Lee for dressing up photos?  ;D Actually no, I don't want to give Lee this challenge as it could go horribly wrong  :-X  Allan had a stent fitted today and is a bit groggy but not enough to have sent me to mot the orange buggy!! Joking aside, he is doing well and very thankful for all the kind messages. Thanks again  :-*

My look was a response to Lee's outrageous selfie but based/inspired by one of Dave C's many many fancy dress photos I saw at his 70th B'day. He'd put on some John Lennon glasses and a wig and I realised I had these items for IBW. But liking pizzas I added a personal touch as I think the cutter could be quite useful in a surgical procedure...

Yes Lee and Dave C are best left unchallenged in the dressing up department but a peek into Lee's wardrobe would probably reveal that his 'Father Lee' get up let us off very lightly.

Excellent that Allan's brief stay in hospital didn't disrupt him keeping all his buggys MOT'd.

We all look forward to him sitting in the passenger seats of his fleet waving imperiously.

Friday morning.
As the southern/midlands Harwich ferry gets in half an hour or so before the northern Hull ferry, will any of you guys be hanging around at the first of Snoopy's suggested stops until we get there? (The BP on the A20) or are we meeting up as and when?

If anyone wants my mobile number as a 'northern contact' or is willing to let me have theirs as a 'southern contact', please send me a pm, or messenger message. Don't really want to post it on here.

Just remembered to turn my 'roaming' on.

Help.

Took the buggy out for a pre IBW blast after a service to give it a final check and when I got back I found a drip! After a dry year the rear main has started to weep again.

Normally I would just fit the spare that I carry in the IBW spares kit but forgot to replace it when I changed it last year.

Ollie has none in stock and I can't get one until Thur lunch which is too late.

Has anyone got a rear main and O ring for a type 1 they can bring and let me have at Harwich? That way if it does go Exon Valdez in Holland I stand a chance of a local garage fixing it rather than being stuck waiting for parts.

Not a bad idea, although most of us should remain together with this run (especially at low trailer speeds), its not like Germany where we were scattered about and pretty much a straight line road all the way

Went in with a flat spot now coughing a d spluttering, guy said new alternator was over charging so took the big wire off it and told them to drive to an auto electrician ! Where His comment about doing that was expected and he found nothing wrong.
Coil was hot supposedly 19 volts in the buggy so he now looking at coil faulty and expert says points should be 15 thou.

Great photos Hugh.  As usual, your account of our adventures,  highlights such a memorable IBW.  I'll post my pictures when I have sussed out how to transfer them from my camera, onto here! Could be some time  ;D

Thingymebob as you'll appreciate my snaps are only the tip of the ice berg of the many highs and couple of lows of the IBW adventure. But I know Dave DND will be along soonish with his magisterial take on the whole fandango including no doubt the Flower Power costumes, Dave C addressing the crowd and Dutch TV fame for Alan, Flags, Mark, Chad, Lee and Bob....

My memory was of struggling to keep up with David, Fyn and Kath scampering up and down the many ladders like regular mill mice!

Just remembered all the folks having no phones working out there, Vicky phoned Virgin and her red sim is 3 years old and has become incompatible with some continental providers agreements since last used abroad so they are issuing an updated one. May be worth others checking with their service providers.
