Hi all, whilst underneath the buggy , refitting my new rocker covers and cxhaust cannons, I noticed that my clutchaadjusting wing nut against the clutch arm seems to have worked right to thee last thread, and is in danger of flying off and leaving me clutchless. Can I wind it in a few threads then lock another nut against it ? The clutch is all working fine. Anyone else experienced this ? Thank you .

The wing nut sits in a oval bowl in the clutch arm so should not rotate undone, the only setting is 1" free play at the pedal .
Other problems are incorrectly angled pedals, clutch cable to short.

The nut nears the end of the cable as the clutch wears down reducing the free play so you have to slacken the cable to get the free play back.

Wound the clutch wing nut in some threads to see what happened,  lost all my free play  and when I drove it , the pedal came way up before clutch disengaged (engaged) ok took up drive  :D, which felt awful so slackened off nut again but am as I said previously, right on the last couple of threads. So reckon cable is too long, it was only a bodge shorten job with a couple of cable clamps during the build to get moving. Guess I need to shorten it to the point that the wing nut is about half way down the threaded section ? Would like to get a couple of cables done professionally , any reccomendations where to send them and anyone know what length cable should be to suit a short wheelbase manta ray? I think the previous owner took fifteen inches out of the pan is it that simple i.e. Fifteen inches off the cable ? Thanks all  ;-)up

Before you order a cable and modify it note there are about 5 different lengths to start with. You need the right one for the pan year.

Yours is to short not to long.

You can't go by how much was supposedly taken out of the chassis, you'll need to trial fit a cable and mark it. Any industrial cable place will do it or maybe a boat yard.

If your wingnut is right on the end of the thread then the cables too short surely and needs to be a little longer. You could just fit a new cable, put a loop in it and clip it, this 'bodge' as you put it has served me well for 40 years now and has never let me down...jus' sayin'...

As others have said, the "Bodge" works incredibly well

But if you are determined to get a correct length cable, then why not try the bodge as shown until you get a cable length that you are happy with and then get someone like Speedy cables to knock up one to the length that you have ended up with

My bodge is the same as yours dave    ;-)up, When I refer to a bodge I don't mean it in a derogatory way just that it's not a custom built correct length cable, mine has been fine except for the length discrepancy, which I will sort out this week. I will probably get some cables made once I know the right length just cause I like things right and will look better at mot time   ;-)up, thanks all.
