GEM cover the driver (and family) not the vehicle. I've had excellent breakdown service from them (called them out twice) and no age limit for the vehicle.

My wife and I are covered for any vehicle for around £100.
"Ah, Beach Buggies, sure, just a quick cheap way of getting a few more years out of a rusty Beetle. You can throw one together in a weekend." anon.

I got mine with green flag but named buggy on policy and also covered for daily on personal cover. Read small print because if you don't tell them of buggy they can make claim invalid if car is over a certain age, I got burnt with this when I made a call for breakdown and ended up paying for tow.

Try Auto-Aid.
You can get Mr & Mrs cover for less than £50. Covers any car because it's personal cover.
**** One major point to know. **** Although you ring them to arrange assistance or recovery, you initially pay for the service and claim it back.
That said, the only time we've used them was when my wife got a puncture on a narrow lane on the way to work. They sent someone to sort it and didn't charge her directly.
The custmer service was great. The phoned her after a while yo make sure someone had gone out to her, which she appreciated.

If you can't eat it or play with it, just pee on it and walk away.
