Hi everyone,
My name is Ryan as you can tell from my username, I'm 22, live in bolton and I have had my buggy project since I was 15. I'm a mechanic by trade, mainly repairing and MOT testing modern cars so it's always a nice change to work on older cars etc.
I've just recently signed up to the forum after having a couple of years away from the buggy scene. The purchase of my first home soaked up the buggy fund and I've had to spend all of my time fitting bathrooms, kitchens and doors rather than beach buggy bodies and parts!  :-\

Anyway, My buggy has been virtually untouched for the last 3 years (time flies), but now I'm hoping to get back at it and order a body shell as soon as I recover from the cost of Christmas!
At the moment it's just a rolling chassis, 1971 from the frame head to the rear axle, 1973 beetle IRS rear end, and a 1954 king & linkpin front beam. A bit of a mixmatch but I'm told this delivers good handling?

I want to put a sidewinder body on, and keep it simple and classic with a 1600 twin port engine, original steering colour etc

I used to be on the old forum and had a lot of help from Krug and tucker217. I've also been to a few shows and seen some of your amazing buggies which inspired me a lot. Thanks again to krug and tucker123 who managed to put up with all my questions and queries when I knew nothing about building a buggy! Buggypete was a great help too by selling me his lovely wolf race slot mags that you can see below  :D

Here is where I am up to:

I also have a 1300 twin port engine that needs a rebuild and 1600 kit putting on

Thanks for reading, hopefully will see some of you at various shows next events this year!

Ps, anybody needing an mot in the north west area, give me a shout  ;-)up
;)

Welcome, looks like a really nice job on the chassis and well on the way to becoming a buggy. One piece of advise i must offer which I'm sure will be echoed by many other forum members. Before you go any further get rid of the red urethane steering coupling donut and use a genuine vw black one. The red ones split and break up, they are not safe. Once again welcome
Have fun. Be lucky

Welcome back and it's really impressive where you have got to.

The Sidewinder is a good looking body - especially in yellow !

Welcome back to the scene, if you re upping your motor to 1600 you will need the heads machined to get them in or some 1600 heads.

Welcome! Only 7 years - rapid by my standards  (a mere 33 years). Looking forward to seeing it done and on the road.
Who needs prozac when you can drive a buggy?

Thank you all for the warm welcome back!
Cheers for the tips too, il get a black steering donut on order asap, I had no idea the red ones had issues, in fact I thought they were the better ones  :o
Yep I knew about the heads, I briefly worked at Manchester air cooled so I've been around quite a few engine builds, but im sure il have plenty questions when I get around to building the engine. I'm actually thinking of getting the 1641 kit
I plan to get a blue metalflake body as my logbook says blue and I'm trying to avoid making any changes on the logbook  :-[
