Hi all , anyone experienced any annoying rattles , vibrations , knocks, banging or whirring noises on driving their buggies . And then finally tracked them down?  Being fibreglass I wonder if they are prone to this , be interested as to what people heard , found and did to remedy it ! As due to wind , road and exhaust noise find it hard to hear where stuff is coming from  :-\

thats fine hudge!, .... But only once I have convinced myself that my engine or gearbox aren't going to fall out and bounce down the road 😖

There will be noises and some of it will depend on how well the body and its parts are bolted down/together. One very important
thing to have are two supports for the front of the body, they can be located on top of the front beam and rise up to the
body just in front of the tank.

The bonnet will need to be well fixed down each side and everything under there, ie steering support bar should be fixed down
well.

In the winter things can squeak a bit more, I guess its just down to the sheer temperature drop and that rubber will harden off a little bit
which encourages noises. The chassis build quality will play a part too, as flexing will also cause noises.

In summer things are very different and you shouldn't hear too much, though if you feel the engines going to fall out then it may be worth
looking over things generally and making it all as good as you can, how are your engine mounts?

Ahh, Yes, of course...

The gearbox mounts, can and sometimes do, when they get tired, move about a bit more...

This isnt an easy one really as all buggies seem to be put together slightly differently and consequently
they will have different characteristics and sounds/squeaks from one to another.

The best advice would be to go over everything and ensure all is well tied down  ;-)up

It is easy to get obsessed with noises. As Peter says convince yourself everything is OK by giving the car a good going over then try to ignore odd noises if they are there all the time and just worry about new ones.

For ages after getting mine I obsessed about tappet noise as every time I drove past anything solid (cars, walls, small dogs) the noise would bounce back and always seemed over loud, probably just used to having a water jacket on other engines to absorb it.

I now use ear plugs on long trips, stops me worrying, reduces wind noise and saves my hearing.

Sound system, with amp and decent speakers will drown that out or after many miles you will syart going deaf and the noise will seemingly decrease

going to have a good look around, the manta ray doesn't have an opening bonnet, was joking about the engine falling out but sounds almost behind thr dash, going to check speedo cable routing, it is cable tied to front body support , I would imagine there is a fair bit of turbulence around the front wheel arches and up under the bonnet area, I have a rear mounted fuel tank too so a big void under the front. It's gone for ball joints an mot now so they will be having a good poke around too.  ;-)up

yes my front body supports are just flat steel strip going from the bulkhead to the front of the body , and I had to cut clearance spaces in them to stop the tie rods fouling them on lock as previous builder had one track rod end going in from the bottom of the steering arm against the taper an a long tie rod that had been bent to clear the tunnel. That's all sorted now but will see how firmly the front body is fixed to these support bars. Thanks ,  ;-)up
