Progress on the Manx has been slow but as Winter draws in it is time to think about some the jobs that need sorting by other people.
I would like to do the seats as close to the originals as possible, based on Rob's fibreglass shells and '65 Beetle lower seat frames . From what I can see in the attached pictures (and others) it appears that the upholstered front is a cover that fits over/around the lip of the seat shell, leaving rear of the gloss shell exposed?
Is that correct, does anyone have better pics of the rears?

Yes, a slip on cover with a tie string ,with some extra padding glued to the seat shell would be perfect. I think Big GP on here took over making them (or was it Hunter?) When Mel H sold them his sewing machine.

That perforated vynil was called 'Ambla' and was discontinued years ago but I may know of a source if you're stuck. Rear seat would have plywood bases with foam padding glued to it and the cover wrapped round and stapled.

Hi David,
Thanks for the info. I always assumed the textured seat inserts were made of the same stuff as the basket weave material of 70s Beetle seats, but with the ribs/heat pressings running side to side rather than up and down? I have seen that for sale off the role at a show recently.

Not me I'm afraid I was making the seat wedges but it's Hunter for your seat covers
