I really appreciate your hesitancy in putting stuff into print - however, you have a problem that needs to be resolved.

My experience is from the other side when the feds are knocking at the door because there are 2 cars driving about with the same numbers, and it turned out to be a genuine factory issue where 2 cars went down the VW production line with identical numbers issued and stamped - that was a real interesting one to sort out

Having issues logging into, and navigating photobucket hence the lack of continuance. Here is a photo from the gearbox re-build. Shows the 3 selector rods in neutral position. You can see the 3 trough`s through which the end of the dog leg travels when the gear lever is moved from side to side. Moving the gear lever forwards or backwards pulls\pushes the appropriate selector rod in and out. When you shorten the gear change rod and weld it back up again care is needed to ensure that you have the change rod alignment as near as original. There were two bends in the change rod tube on mine and cutting out the same amount as you shorten the chassis is a real compromise. There is really only one section of the tubing that you can cut out. When welded back together mine would not clear the handbrake section by a smidgen so a little further bending was required. This of course shortens the tube by a fraction. It`s back in the chassis linked up to the gearbox. and changes through 1 to 4 with ease and fair precision. It selects reverse but I am not happy with this as it takes a bit more force and I am sure the front end of the tube where the ball end of the gear lever sits is a fraction too high and is forcing the tube down over putting pressure on the tube bush. It`s coming back out again so will try to photograph and you will see what I mean. Also want to be able to have the back end adjustable length ways where it meets the coupling to be able to compensate for any tweaks to the tube. A lot of effort maybe but all to try to have the dog leg rotate through the troughs as close to original as poss` and end up with gear changes as slick as I know it can be. Just old and daft I guess

I always try to use one of these adjusters at the back end of the shift rod. Invaluable for getting things perfectly in line.

Photo of rear hub bearing housing cover... Take a look just north of my finger small round hole. Look at the slotted hole lower down the photo... Important that you remove all crud & rust from this oilway before re-assembly
