I always just put a loop in the cable and fasten with two wire rope clips. Not had one fail yet.

Am pleased it was helpful, I sometimes get soo frustrated at seeing all the
stuff we have to buy now, its appalling.

I have changed my pedal stops to a pair of clips and mounted a stop plate behind them,
I have fully adjustable pedal stops that work a treat and are sooo easy to set :-)

Am just nearly finished making my carb manifold heating system last indefinitely, I have made some
stainless fittings, two go into my Weber manifold and two are mounted on the exhaust heat take off flanges.

They are joined with 15mm dia copper central heating tube and a couple of 90 degree elbows 

The added support bar I have for the Weber means that the heat take off tubes from the exhaust dont have to
be anything like strong enough to support the entire carb assembly, as VW do.

I hopefully will at last have a heat riser system that wont rot away before your eyes as the standard supplied pair of
zinc and colour heat riser tubes do, they are appalling and I just dont understand why they dont make them out of stainless.

Well, I do.... You have to keep buying more!

Mmm, I know you have Dave, I just am trying to elevate things to an area thats fit and forget, every time.

Raising the bar I spose, your way works well but it would be sooo nice if something sensible and well made
was available for everyone to use without a lot of faffing.

Gone are the days when I could get two handbrake cables and the clutch done for 20 Embassy Regal. TBH there's and industrial cable place or a marine place in most areas that can do a proper job of swaging a new straight end on a cable for not too much $$$.

The basic design works well we use the same principal fittings up to 30 tonnes pull but you need the correct size rope and fitting.

The original vw one is 7mm diameter thread.

And that was my solution last year too.... fingers crossed - so far so good.

I had issues with clutch adjustment when I did a cable shortening temporary fix that later stretched, worth checking the cable is pulling the clutch lever sufficiently. My release bearing jumped out of the clips also after I damaged a clip fitting it wrong, we learn by our mistakes hey😀
