I picked up my new buggy today and i want to convert the front brakes to 4 bolt to match the rear.

I have a complete front beam from drum to drum. It's from a 1965 so is a ball joint beam with wide 5 brakes. I am after a complete four bolt beam from drum to drum. Even better if it's on drop spindles and adjustable!

My beam has had some work in the past but it pretty solid.

This is the best way to convert to wide five for you ball joint bug. I even have a pair of adapters so you can convert the rear.

Am located near Maidstone.

Cool are they nearly ready?

Might have found a complete beam near me with disks. If its any good ill probably buy it and sell my one. After having a closer look the beam itself is horrible! If you want the other bits though I will save them for you. Maybe we could knock a bit off the sidewinder?!

I'm not in need of the parts really as I don't have any plans with mine, just thought I would help you out if as I'm able to go either 4 or 5 studs

Hi mate, if you end up selling the beam or just the other bits I would be interested if no one else wants them. I would have to arrange a courier or something though!

'65 axle would be K&L as VW didn't start fitting ball joint fronts until '66 model year. If your beam's a '66 wide 5 all you need to convert to 4 bolt are the drums (fitted with your original bearings) and new shoes (as the old ones will be bedded in to the old drums).

If your original axle is a K&L though a ball joint one won't just bolt on in place of it.

Ignore any of the above if you already know it though...lol...

It's a 66 model beam then. It's just that my chassis is registered as a 65 and is on a c plate. Will be switching to four bolt but need to keep the parts spend down on this project.

VW changed the 'model' year in the August of the year, they re-tooled for model changes during the Summer holiday factory shut-downs. '65 'C' registration went thru to December '65 so a 'C' reg '66 model registered post Aug. '65 is fine.
