Been spurred on with a recent move to sort mine out.
So I bought the buggy about 11 years ago, and err it got used about 3 times then I err took it apart, with good reasons, so she was built around 84 and built to a very high standard, for 1984 and a bunch of one armed monkeys with tools.

I have done bits and bobs every now and then but time, money effort etc wore thin or ran out of momentum, but I was keeping my Type 3 Fasty, a mates Beetle and his Bay panel van in a lock up which has just been sold so clearing it out and I found the buggies 1300 Twin hotspot I shoved in there a few years back, and been spurred on slightly to do it.

Been doing some work on the engine now and not sure where to go, she has a fair bit of end float, no 3 piston rings are leaking, some rust on the valves for 2 and 4, now I have a rebuild kit so I could strip the heads rebuild and put it back together....or I could drag my 1641 out which needs piston rings doing and run that with a 1200 box.

Just need to crack on with it really and fix the really bad work that has been done to it over the years
Dash frame is wonky so the bonnet sits wonky
Windscreen was held in with bolts....no nuts, Silicone sealant was the port of call there
Steering column was there, to stop it from floating around, secure it if you will, this was done with a wooden doors stop and some tape.
Electrics, chocolate block.

Bodywork, lots of spider cracks, lots of cracking, some minor crash damage, painstakingly drilled al the cracks to stop them spreading, dash has a million clocks in it, none of which worked.

Plan is to get an engine built, gear box mounts sorted, wheel bearings and wire it up.

yeah I will, at the moment my buggy is somewhere in my garage, I could take a picture but all you would see is a pile of junk from the house piled up over the buggy and the buggy nowhere to be seen.

As for...... "the rear end is butt ugly", that can be sorted with the help of Mr Hacksaw.   I'm sure there are plenty of photos of rear ends on here to give you some inspiration (stop making your own jokes up -  you childish bunch!!) 

Where are you?  The guys might be able to put together a posse to pop in on you to give you a big of motivation.

Well I have instigated a plan, the buggy is going to be dug out this week and brought to the workshop, the Spitfire and the 8 series will be put in it's place in the garage.

The buggy will then come out here, be wired, body work done, and mot'd trying to aim for a week build time, wndscreen being the hardest part, because I will have to make a frame that sits the bonnet straight, the windscreen straight and the dash straight.

So hopefully in a few weeks I might have it on the road

AS for the rear end, well I could hacksaw it off and I have thought about it many times but I look at it like this shes a bit like the Mona Lisa bit ugly, definitely a couple of pints before you want to take her home, you could make her better with a bit of airbrushing and fettling but at the end of the day you're still destroying a very rare item. So the rear end will be staying as they have all been butchered over the years, this is not mine but this the only one I can find with a current search, and one of the only ones I could find years and years ago

welcome and uncut original GP super buggy in the standard orange colour, engine access is a pain through the rear hatch.
keep us posted on the progress.

The thing is I hate orange, I am actually thinking a dark green well I don't know colour is up for debate, but orange is totally out.

Still struggling to get over the price of VW bits these days I mean I was looking for stuff earlier and there is stuff that was pennies when I got out of "the scene" 8 years ago is now knocking me off my seat with a " 'OW MUCH!"

I wanted beam adjusters to lower the front on the king and link beam, I remember when they were pence not a million pounds, might have to go the cheap option and get smaller tyres for the front and bigger rears.
