Hi guy just wondering if you can help  i've purchased a short wheelbase buggy as the last one I was buying fell through sticking to all the advice you guys have told me .  I made sure that  I found out what it was listed as on the v5  and did the chassis number and engine number match the V5  Plus was the sellers name on the V5 all this was fine. It's down as a vw buggy and all number match  but I've done searches on DVLA and my car but doesn't bring up anything is this just because its been off the road when digital records were introduced. My main query is will I just be able to get it MOT or am I going to get stung with an IVA. Cry out to the buggy gods for help🙏🏻

If you have a correct log book then send it in and all should be fine.
But what you could do is photocopy it and keep untill you get your new
V5 back.
I've sent in books for cars that have been off the road for years and all
Ok

As David said. Just change the ownership to you as you would any other car you purchase. Get a photocopy before you send it in (just to be on the safe side).
That should be it.
I'm in my buggy,
It's raining,
I really don't care.

Agreed.... I went through exactly the same with a buggy that had been off the road for years and years (on an old V5)

Just do change of ownership (nothing else) and will come back on new format v5 (of course) and will be on the system as it should be.

Have you typed in the details EXACTLY as the V5?
Having said that whenever I type in GBH's details in dvla/ motor factors searches, it comes up unknown......never worried me, and its never been a problem at MOT....or insurance etc. It too was off the road for years before sorn came in, had to sorn it and unsorn it the same day to tax it originally. So the sorn 'thing' may be relevant.... I aint about to 'poke the bear' either!

Edit....just reread your post, maybe the reg no longer exists....the Dvla do that to re-use them on new age related stuff, I believe!

My car is all correctly registered etc and will show on the MOT History checker the Government released, but it will not show up on the details of vehicle website.

Works here
https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/?_ga=1.121886027.1977906808.1445295536

Not Here
https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

My daily driver shows up on both. Might be due to the buggy being a classic etc and not been processed, who knows!

The only thing I would make sure is that it is SORN.

I bought a motorbike that had not been on the road since 1995 and it had not been SORN'd.

When SORN you get a sub screen saying you maybe liable for fines, prosecution, seizure etc but don't worry about this if you have just bought the vehicle.

Saw that on eBay. Very nice project there. Would have gone for it myself if I had the funds.

Hi this buggy was a 'welsh barn find' wasn't it as discussed last week in Buggy Box  viz 'How much for a swb restored rolling chassis ?' ?

I said I couldn't find it on DVLA but checked the autotrader reg check and it came up as a 'red 1300 saloon beetle'

So put the reg in    autotrader.co.uk/vehiclecheck   and I hope it comes up with something different to what it did for me. Could be autotrader is wrong data base but either way take a photocopy of the original V5 and tread carefully.
