VW heritage .... Pancake filter ... About 3 or so inches needed above the carb to get it on ... That's about the thinnest u will get ...

I used slim chrome pancake filter until I went twin carb. You are right, very little room.
Have a look at Doon L004s site, find it from member search that probably has details of what he.used, I think he has single carb 
I have.my old fterand spare foam somewhere in the garage but couldn't get it to you till the new year if you are interested

You could always fit one remotely and got a cone filter.

I'd go remote too....

These filters are big, but you can run ducting to the carbs with some Silicon hoses and locate the filter whereever you want.

I'd go with one of them and the cone/K&N style filter. Much better than those crappy chrome pancake ones.

I may have one of those elbows in fact, I'll have a look later.

You may not get the elbow under there either.

Remember when me and Rich designed the Doon we did it for ourselves at the time and both of us run twin carbs. Hence the kit was essentially designed to take twin carbs.

However on Mark's SWB Doon we used a very thin filter from Kingfisher Kustoms that does just fit.

Found a solution to the air filter problem after trying a pancake type and it not fitting.

I was looking at these also, but according to the pro's they are restricted on the air flow so you wont get the best out of your carb's best thing is to try and get a 65mm air filter and im having a mare atm myself...
