Having problemswith my current 1600 engine, so thinking about a running
replacement just to get going whilst i take mine out and check it over.
anything really, 1200 1300 etc etc

just needs to be complete (no Exhaust) and to know its running.
and as cheap as poss as will be passed on after use.

Anyone got anything knocking about in the way  ;)

A mate of mine is selling his turn key 1300, it was used in his daily but he upgraded to a 1600, actually finished fitting the engine today. He's after £500 ono.

I think Aorange is selling a 1500 SP engine soon, if you're after something a little bigger?

Scootlife, I could Hire you my spare engine!. I took it out when I put my type 4 engine in. It's a 1600 tp with twin solex carbs and has a 1300 flywheel fitted with the early pressure plate. I could fasten it on a gearbox and get it running again. How about £30 a month?

That is an absolute gem of an offer. Trouble would be , I wouldnt want to give it back !!!!
Have ordered a full gasket set and new manifold rubbers etc, will change all those
and then get cracking with valve clearances so Im hoping that will get it sorted.
At least if i had my own spare engine, it would allow me to take my time with
getting the problem one sorted.
I would also be worried about breaking yours !!
But that is a really really appreciated offer and I cant thank you enough. ;-)up

However ..... I might be back in a few weeks if I cant sort anything  ;D

Hi Steve, yes bloody thing !!!

Well i havent really ever used it. When we went down to get it can you remember it backfiring
a couple of times ?? I seem to remember it did this and just put it down to being a cold damp
december day !!! And I was more interested in buying that silver jubilee mag wheel chopper !!

Might have to take you up on some assistance, gonna change all manifold gaskets and rubbers,
and then attempt valve clearances , if not then prob engine out and checking heads, barrels and pistons.
have a look in the tech section as posted up some symptoms ..
Cheers Rob

No problem Rob just give me a shout, I have a timing light somewhere in the shed if you need it. If you hadn't changed the carb I would have suspected that, I had a similar problem last year, mine is running twin carbs and evrytime i used it the oil level was going up as it was overfueling and pushing neat petrol into the sump and misfiring+ backfiring, changed the carbs and its all sorted now.
I have a compression tester here as well if you wanted to check the compression as I suspect the valves may need some adjustment.
