I managed to source a M6 machine screw with a hole inside it {for wires) from a friend and
this was pressed in at the bottom.....











With the knob finished, it was time to re-sit the Momo logo coin back in position at the top,
but at the same time i needed access to the start button, so i got an old pair of sunglasses
and took them apart for the hinge mechanism.


I cut a groove on the underside of the coin, slotted the hinge in and glued it in. Once set i
filled in the machined groove.















I had to channel a groove on the gear knob also to allow the other half of the hinge to slot too....







I then cut the heads off the hex head bolts and glued them to the Momo Logo coin so that
when the lid is closed no one knows better and think it's just another Momo gear knob on a shifter....














Once screwed back onto the shifter, it looks as if it was an origlnal part of the gear stick....

Very happy with the way it's turned out......























You guys must be thinking, that i have just given my secret away on how to start my buggy,
but there is a bigger secret hidden behind this starter which cannot be disclosed....



I have also been working on a different style of dash design and how to incorporate the dials...
this is still at a prototype stage at the moment.


I have also been working on some ideas to modify the side pods and the bonnet slightly.


Finally Mike came through again last week having finished fabricating my Rollcage. Mike didn't
have a tub on hand to work with and took all measurements off the old Cage i had put together
and given to him. He's done an awesome job again......


Back home and the cage matched up onto the chassis....

Tested out with the tub on the chassis and seats in place....

Plans are to drill down to the first hole and then straight out to the back of the shaft....






Then to mill a 3mm channel down the back of the shaft... Feed the wire through and fill the recess back up.....

Take it you are only using a low voltage feed to a relay which will power the much thicker starter solenoid wire?

Be careful its well insulated wire, as if it chafes anywhere and the wire touches the shifter it will earth straight to the chassis and either melt or could catch alight.

Especially where it goes through the wire passes into the chassis as the gear shifter is constantly moving and hence so is the wire.

You're absolutely right, i did search for a Wireless ignition start button on the net but found nothing.

So plans are to run the cable straight down the back of the gear shaft and then have it coiled  from the exit point and into the chassis tunnel.

Im trying to get the exit point to be as close as i can to the centre of the shaft at the bottom  to minimise the movement of the cable when changing gears.

Lost for words !

very impressive work so far.
a bypass relay would work as they are triggered by the low loads in modern car electrics and do not load the circuit to flag up a fault and thus use a very small switching wire to the relay where the larger wires power the item from a higher amperage supply.
it may need one of these to power a conventional heavy duty relay for the solenoid circuit load.

Started working on the steering column last week and have an idea In mind as to how it will look.....

Spent a few evenings hard grafting with sand paper and then a couple of hours today with the polishing machine....












Just need to finish off the little stub at the bottom before sending off for chroming.

Picked up a steering column outer tube from Flatlands a while back......for a nice clean finished look under the dash.





Also stripped the steering hub and ordered a boss kit for the Momo steering wheel.
