Probably a question for Snoopy but here goes,

Anyone got alternative engines to vw air cooled, if so how do you adapt the gearbox or are you all using a different box.

Most adaptors are a simple flat plate with spacers on the mounting bolts holes to suit the irregular mounting bolt positions. The flywheels are beetle 200mm size with the inner of the donor crankshaft spaced backwards or forwards to get the distance correct for the clutch to work.
Some like the ford pinto required the gearbox input shaft changing to suit.
Mine has the 2l fiat and a standard 200mm clutch.
