top ball joints nut

There seems to be an eliptical nut on the top ball joints what position do they need to be in as mine seem to be in 2 different positions ?

 I think They are camber nuts and used to get the wheel alignment

there is a dot on one of the nut flat faces,its supposed to face forward.

The notch on the camber nut should face forward and be 'square' to the axle  :)
