Hi As above I know Mel says to use the polyester paint (same as gel coat) but thats not really any good if the body is already painted. The body itself is pretty good as is the existing paint but by the time I have filled a few holes I may as well re-spray.
So and with a particular target at Dave DND & Muzzy because I know they have both done theirs what is the best paint to use bearing in mind I cant use 2 pack at home??
I have a small compressor half decent gun so whats best?

Hand sand it back to gel coat and poly paint it!

why cant you 2k it at home

Muzzy I thought it was difficult to get and you needed air driven masks? My compressor would just about cope with the gun! 
I just wanted to sort it myself rather than pay someone and I would go the polyester route but didn't really want the time factor of the complete removal of a pretty good paint job. 

i went for enamel paint, but only because it doesnt react like all the other paints i tried, plus i was then metal flaking it and covering it in clear lacquer,

you dont realy need an air fed mask when doing it outside, just a good quality mask, i just bought a cheep gazebo with sides in it, gave the floor a good clean, give it a good rub down, gave the gel coat a good coat of polyester base coat, then mixed up the 2k, you can get it from most automotive paint suppliers, pick a nice warm day,

The enamel route is that like Tekaloid? And that stuff can't be buffed/polished?

trouble with enamels is the drying time unless you have a garage and radiant heaters so the dust does not get blown about. there was some dutch boat paint that can be roller applied if needs be and gives a good finnish a few years ago on an earlier buggy club site.
as for home spraying I use the cellulose paint as it is dry before it reaches anything in the area it settles on not even considered 2K stuff because of spray drift and my health.

thats right, you can't really buff / polish it, seemed to take an age to finally dry, luckily my fingerprints are now hidden! 

I did mine outside with a rattle can  . . .  On Flying Ant day !!   

As they say, i would cell it or enamel as Richyc says, do not do 2pk at home its very dangerous read all threads on it plus its hard as f... to get it right with no reactions etc etc... not good for you unless you got a fully vented garage and air fed mask..

Celly all the way 3- 4 coats and leave it.. then buff
