I built this LWB Jas last year on a strict buget using mainly used parts, it really turned out well IMHO. One of the members on this site has the moulds (freakofnature).

I'm definitely a bit at a time build kind of guy, just need to get the body off the pan and sell it so i know how much cash i have to raise to for the buggy body. Can't seem to work out how much to put up the body for or even if it'll sell. £500 sound unrealistic?

Looks like a good shell. Have no idea what it would be worth to someone though. Unfortunately the deseaming will count against it to many. What's wrong with the car? Wouldn't you be better selling as a whole then buying a different chassis for the buggy?

Maybe you're right, sell the car as a project and build a buggy from something new. Part of me wants to hang onto him and resurrect him though.

Have you not got any comeback on the guy who painted it? Get estimates for repaints then take them to small claims court maybe?

It really pains me to say this.... (certainly never thought I would hear myself say this...)

But it really does look too good to strip to a buggy.  Surely regardless of the state of the paint, its better to sell it as a whole and then buy a chassis (or existing buggy) and start on that instead.?

The guy (so tempted to name and shame) got a bollocking in front of an entire club meeting and almost run out of the scene. Paid in cash unfortunately and have been told there's little i can do for comeback. He's wrecking MG's these days so that's something I guess.

So my dilema is this, selling the body, a set of Rivieras, fibreglass wings, decklid, newton commercial carpet, rear seat blagh blagh will raise most of the cash for a buggy body and leave me with enough  parts to start a build. If I sell the bug I'm already behind having to source a floor pan (likely rotten) and if that's the case I might as well cash him in and walk away. Oddly I want to create something positive from 7 years of a very poor beetle owning experience. I'm not convinced selling the body will be successful though, who's gonna buy a heavily modified shell with no chassis?

Oh the dilemma.... I appreciate the encouragement and the honest opinions, even if you are tempting me with Doon shaped lovelies!

As you are doing a lwb, finding a chassis is easy really. There are some on vzi at the moment for £80.

it depends what it owes you as to breaking or selling, these days it seems that stadard body beetles with mechanical upgrades are more in favour then modified or ratlook ones + beetles have come down in price unless it is pre 66.
