What's the thoughts on splitting the wiring for the rear lights and brake lights at the front, and running separate wires to the rear?  A waste of wire? More to go wrong, or less chance of losing either both lights, of both brake lights?

Your tail lights should be on a seperate fuse for left and right. If you have a fuse blow or a wiring problem you still have 1 side working

Hi Steve,

On the Beetle the rear lights are fed off two separate fuses and therefore two separate wires. Actually the left front side and left rear are off one fuse, and the right the other. This is so that if a fuse goes you only loose lights on one side or the other, but still have at least one front and rear.


The brakes are a single wire to the back straight from the brake light switch on the master cylinder to one of the brakes, then looped across to the other rear brake. This is because the feed TO the switch is fused and not teh wires to the brake lights (if that makes sense), so having two wires to the brake lights would make no difference.
