[Beach Buggy Event of 2013]

Its that time to award another Moderators Medal. The nights are drawing in and the year is coming to an end. With the exception of a few of you mad enough to drive your Buggies all year round (Peter), the majority of us are now putting our cars to bed for a few weeks, (at least until the snow arrives).  So we thought that we would look back over the last year of Buggy get togethers and contemplate which event stood out above the others as the greatest Buggy Event of the year?

Points were to be awarded for the number of Buggies that turned up, any hillarious stories that followed, media awareness, and the number of pictures, posts and comments that followed, with the award going to the organiser.

And what a great year it has been - for once, we actually had a summer, with Sun and everything, and we certainly made the most of it with the events that followed. But there was one particular event that has always stood out above the rest.

Originally conceived by such a simple concept of finding somewhere near the centre of the country for all corners to meet up for a simple weekend of socialising, drinking and fun, and it has grown year on year indeed into one of the greatest Beach Buggy events that we could hope for.

I`m of course talking about N.E.W.S.  and the award goes to Hazel

For me, it was a great weekend catching up with my mates, and unlike other meets, there was no hidden agenda`s, No car shows, No Carnivals, No Charities, just a field in the middle of nowhere for us to get together and have fun in its simplest and most enjoyable form.

A few words from Chad, who made a stunning presentation to the Moderators for this award:

I do love NEWS.

Like Swanage I have been there from the start and been to every one. This year was a great event, the weather was spot on, I haven't laughed as much as I did on the Sunday photo shoot.

Obviously the cruise was simply epic and it was nice to be part of possible the UK's longest buggy cruise in terms of miles (nearly 70 I think) with 23 buggies mainly all together most of the time.

It was also memorable for me in that it was Mark and Fleur's first event with their new Doon which we had worked hard to get finished in time, along with the long awaited debut of Hazel's GP.

And of course always great to catch up with Paul and Louise from north of the border. Of course the photo shoot was one of the most memorable things of this year and it was great how everyone got involved to a man and woman.

In terms of year on year improvement NEWS can't be beaten.

Of course there were some worthy runners up to this one, and shown in no particular order are some of our favourite nominations for this award along with a few words from Chad again.


Its really hard to decide - They were all exceptional weekends in lots of different ways.

I have and always will love Swanage.

Unlike Dave its generally the only time I get to see the sea every year.   I love nothing more than getting up in the morning and driving into town along the sea front to get the warm croissants. Always a good turn out from around the country and generally its the only time I get to meet up with some of the southern guys.  I really like the facilities and the bar that's open just for us on Friday and Saturday night. Always good for a pint and a good natter.

And for me the Carnival is great. I absolutely love the attention from tens of thousands of people and the joy we bring to the kids and adult faces. The 4 day event is also great.

Love going down the beach, the Friday night Fish and Chips, the private camp area, the Red Arrows, in fact all of it.








Then there is of course Manchester Big Buggy Weekend.

I really really love this event. I cannot explain the feeling of giving sick children a real buzz when you take them around the car park in the Hospital. And Tatton Park is possibly the only VW event I actually enjoy visiting these days.

The evening spent at Krug's local and the night in the YHA was memorable indeed. Dave Dream on top top form. The cruise back to the YHA through the Derbyshire Dales was some of the best scenery I have driven through with the buggy in a long time and with the warm weather was just unforgettable.

Also really enjoyed the cruise right through the middle of Manchester, Town Centres are always so much fun.











As for other get togethers, I need to mention Mike's Barbie. Its always good to get a night away and great chat with like minded folk. Was really nice to meet up with some new faces and the egg butties on Sunday Morning are epic.





All that said I think this is quite a difficult category in reality as I don't do any of the get togethers down London way and I know from some of the pictures that have been posted that these look like great events too.

Yep, having been to most (with or without the buggy) I would agree with the sentiments.
