QuoteTo be honest Flags, I am getting really suspicious of any of the new parts available these days - they are all made of cheese and of inferior quality.

Spot on...

I know everybody has bugets, but when stuff is needed for repairs or upgrades the only
way to get it right is to buy either original parts or original manufacturers products.

Carbs being one...

As long as everybody uses South Wales Prop Shafts for their ball joint boots they wont be buying anymore for heaven knows how long.

Copies of carbs, generators and 'specially' rubber bits and pieces, are in a nutshell, complete crap!

Its best to wait if you cant afford some things and get them when you can, as it comes up time and time and time and time again and I'm always surprised that many dont seem to take it on board!

If we stop buying crap and stick with the real stuff, they wont have anyone to sell it all to  ;-)up

As far as I know there is only 1 type of 2Ltr heads on the market and from what I've heard they are good.

Old parts are old parts and have normally gone past their expected service life so where possible an OE quality part would be a better choice in my opinion.

I know some of this is sales pitch but read it then tell me it does not make sense.

As for "made of cheese"....

That's one of mine so yes I do know how bad some of the number 52's from the Golden Dragon can be but not all new parts are pony.

Update on the rough running:

The cylinder heads have now had new valves and guide fitted, been refitted back on the engine, and guess what . . . . .

. . . . problems are still there    :'(

Only thing left to change now is the steering wheel  ::)

Bug**r buggy.

It's an issue that's really beyond the Fawlty Towers solution of beating with a small branch whilst making agitated 'dance' movements....

Sorry to hear that Dave. What's the next step, back to basics?

Keep the faith!

Absolutely no idea what is causing this - the fact that Farmer Rob is scratching his head also makes me feel a lot better though, as its certainly not something I would ever have got to the bottom of myself. I`ll know more after catching up with Rob this weekend at Stoneleigh.

Old engine was doing the same thing right up until the point the big end starting grumbling - there is actually very little now that has not been replaced and yet the same fault is persisting. I really wasn`t kidding about replacing the steering wheel - virtually everything else is new.

Small Branch ?

Mate, I`ve even resorted to beating it with a Credit Card - nothing left to buy that hasn`t already been replaced   ::)

Difficult to know what back to basics actually is though.   :-\

Changed:

Carbs / Distributor / Electronic ignition system / Manifolds / Barrels / Pistons / Valves & Guides / Engine Casing / Crank / Cam / Rocker Train

Even tried changing the driver   :P

Not a lot left that we haven`t done   :-\

OK I see where you're at.

So its the steering wheel and so we need a post on which steering wheels people recommend for rough running...

Have you changed the rotor arm and cap lately? I had a spare in my shed for ages. When I took it out the box the contacts inside were corroded and the centre pin had fell out with the spring.

Consigned it to the bin...

Cleaned up my old one and the rotor end ......worked fine.
I'm in my buggy,
It's raining,
I really don't care.
