Hi all

Is a beetle speedo cable long enough? I have the speedo set in the centre of my sidewinder dash  and the cable comes through the body in roughly the same area,  but the cable I have is to short to reach.
Do I need a certain year ??

I usually find them too long. I generally use a (shorter) LHD one.

Standard RHD cable should be 1545-1575mm long.

How strange as mine is to short , will measure it and pop to heritage and see what they have as not sure where the one I have used came from just found it in the garage

My one comes out of the speedo and across the passenger side - through the tub in the top corner of the passenger side and down to the wheel.  No idea why or if that is the usual way people fit them ... it was like that when I got it.  The speedo is centre mounted.  I found my one slightly too long and used a left hand drive one but that turned out to be slightly too short when on full lock - so ended up going back to the standard one and its been fine.

Should have added.... will have a look in the garage this weekend to see if I still have the left hand drive one ... if I do you can have it.... cant promise I have it though as loads of stuff seems to have been lost in my recent house move .... or its hiding away in a box somewhere in the garage that I havent opened yet

when you do get new one be very careful with the routing as the slightist kink and they break no way as tough as original vw ones ive got a bar across behind my dash and ive had to turn my speedo slightly to get a smooth run as the first replacement lasted about 10 mins where as the original had lasted 22 years where it was.
