the threaded bolt that held the generator on is too short and will not clear a bracket allowing the new alternator to be securly fitted.

few ideas about either welding on a new threaded bar ontop of it to extend it or..

cut that bar off and tap a hole in its place then bolt it in..

or grind down the aluminium bracket?

never ever take "conversion kit easy fitment" for granted again! hahaha!

why not just lock 2 nuts onto the existing thread and wind the stud out, then replace with a longer stud or use a bolt and bolt it down instead.

yes make sure they are really tight together and turn on the bottom one. the engine is a type 3 or 4 isn't it?

in which case the engine cooling is aluminium, the studs are steel, so a bit of heat will also help.

as Mike says if not your other option would be a sleeved nut and slightly widen the slot but then you have to find one of those. Bloody annoying when stuff does not fit which is very often these days.

Good to hear you sorted it.

Saw the alt on your build thread and interested in where you got it.  I thought T3 alts were hard to come by, or is that just 2nd hand ones? Did you change from a dynamo? and if so did it fit OK, other than you stud length issue?

Cheers

yeah they are very hard to find. i was going to try the rx7 alternator but it needs a lot of custom brackets and i dont have the facities to make anything like that.

the alternators a kit for type 3 engines. two brackets milled from aluminium, the alternator and a shorter belt as the pully wheel is smaller.

i got it imported from the usa so cost a pretty penny in shipping but hopefully itll be much better than the old dynamo set up. its 55amp over 30 of the dynamo.

other than the studs it was fine. took about 10mins once i got the damn stud out haha.
