It`s a Hi from me.    Put my buggy thro iva complete with windscreen, wipers, roll bar and so on. Take a look at my build thread in "members buggies" and navigate to "Birth Of A Buggy".  All you need to get through IVA is there in great detail.  Then go to the IVA thread where I have uploaded every document for IVA Application, IVA Inspection & 1st Registration with DVLA. Each field of each document is indicated with the correct response. All the documents are downloadable from the.gov site when the site is back on its feet.
Start saving a few bob.....  The 1st registration via DVLA will cost you quite a lot more than you might imagine. They require 2 cheques. (This being the only payment method accepted).
Prior to 1st registration make a call to the K & R section at Swansea, (Kit`s & Rebuild`s). Tell them what you are doing and they will assign a "dedicated" co-worker" making contact quick and simple. You will get an instant email with further instruction.
Above all create a build log...... this must have details of each stage of your build along with accompanying photographs. Assemble something that indicates each years progress to the final date of assembly. This is a critical document. If you have the assemblies fitted to your buggy.... original steering, transaxle. VW build engine etc and can meet the " 8 point rule" and will be given an age related plate rather than a "Q" plate. (Free tax... well not initially but that`s another deep story).

Thanks sooooo much for this. I know its a pig of a procedure but ten years in- there's no going back. I'll read and digest what you have referenced. Many thanks again!!

Great to see you on here

We have had a few server issues over the last 48 hours or so due to the stuff going on in the media - hopefully sorted now, so pics should be easy to upload using the link on the bottom left

No problem..... Any question just ask.      When folk look at the downloadable "IVA Manual" which was 218 pages long when I last made a copy it looks truly daunting. I read it at night in bed when I couldn`t sleep wondering how to get such a thing as a buggy to comply 100%. Think I can quote it word for word from memory.  ;D  ;D
Electrical......  As with brake pipes etc secure every 200mm. There is a simple "module" which assures the fog light complies with the modern requirement that you have to have headlights on. Switch them off and fog light goes off... That`s in my build thread step by step.

Anyway  don`t become downhearted as time passes which it does. When you think you are close to completion call your nearest DVSA test station and ask to speak to an examiner. Tell him what you are trying to achieve and he will give you his mobile contact number. The IVA examination is about 5 hours long and you will enjoy it... honestly. You will be involved more than you can imagine. It`s quite an experience. I had to look twice when he wired his foot up with pressure sensors etc to measure foot pressures required as brake pedal is depressed. I went to the examination with that sinking feeling in my stomach. Came out of it feeling really boyed up. Didn`t pass 1st time but came away with a print out telling me what was needed to get through the second time. When I first spoke to the examiner over the phone he said that they were not there to keep vehicles off the road. Said their aim was to ensure that your vehicle was safe to be used on the road. I have to agree with that.  ;-)up
