Banded wheels done about ten years ago by a company that are still in business, does this welding look good enough?

ps I hate banded wheels, they should all be resigned to the scrap bin of history imho, there are so many better options 

Wonder if they'd balance?

It's not just the dodgy welding,the vast majority just used a ring of mild steel ,and I can guarantee that they weren't trued or balanced after they were welded

There's no reason given modern technology that a better job can be done than the crappy ones that were turned out in the 60s and 70s, to my eyes this one is shocking though.

I didn't think banded wheels done like that were legal any more (if at all ?   

That's why if I wanted the wide stock wheel look I,d swap the centres into a modern 1 piece rim,just get busy with a tape measure to find your preferred rim width.

Banded wheels road legal ?   This is an old, long running chestnut....  You will not find a definitive legal statement one way or the other. However the one certainty is... Should an accident occur and the insuring company become aware of banded wheel/s the current insurance arrangement is immediately declared void. I have witnessed this some years ago when the police were involved in a road accident which resulted in a tyre coming away to expose the wheel banding. Just looking at a weld is no sure way of being sure it is 100% sound. In my humble opinion it`s something I would not consider. Each to their own I guess and the gamble involved.
