I reckon I've had this bonnet for must be nigh on 20 years and I'm sure my thinking at the time was I could fit that on my buggy. I've got, as you may or may not know from my recent posts, a lwb mk2 gp shell which has the fibre glass windscreen surround, which I don't dislike but the Manx bonnet takes the metal surround that I quite like the idea of.
Have any of you done this conversion or know if it's possible?

There's no reason why it wouldn't fit, you've got the body though so try it and see. Manx screens can be a little pricey though.

Are the screens pretty much unique to each shell, even though they look similar?
Whilst having my tea, I remembered that in the past when I've taken the original bonnet off, the dashboard stays put so no disconnecting speedo and electrics etc. Not so I guess with the Manx hood?
Is the dashboard separate on a mk1 gp bonnet, with metal windscreen, do you know

The Manx screen is for a 42" wide bonnet and comes in 3 heights thinking 11" 14" and 16" the old GP is 41" or just a bit more wide the bonnet is separate from dash and they mount on a metal dash frame.

All UK moulded Manx bonnets had integrated dashboards as they were copied off later model Manx kits. Earlier US moulded Manx kits did have separate dashboards in  steel frames that MK1 GPs etc were copied from.

It'd be your choice to stick with the Manx dash or cut it off and use a separate GP type one but you'd need a screen to fit the Manx bonnet as there are different widths.

Manx screens are 42 1/2" across the scuttle, MK1 GPs are 41 3/4" and a couple of buggies are narrower still, Jas and I think Manta Rays are around 41 1/4" so be careful what you buy.

42 1/4" is the 'standard' size that you need to order for a Manx but you'll often find that sides of the bonnet aren't parallel so sometimes they do need a bit of packaging, tweaking or trimming. I narrowed my bottom rail very slightly to get a perfect fit, luckily I bought it as a bare frame so got the glass custom cut to suit. Ah the joys of old fibreglass!

Because I've had that manx one for ages, thinking I might swap it over at some point, I thought I would ask the question now whilst I'm in the throws of a rebuild and you've given me something to think about

I've just read the screen ideas thread started by David and do you know what, I think I'll just stick with what I've got.....
Anybody interested in a Manx bonnet?

The choice is entirely yours, the car would look really good with the Manx bonnet and dash but the extra cost of £400-£500 for a screen could well make your mind up for you if you've already got the GP screen.
