The tank is filled from a cap on the wing that then has a 45cm tube (and parallel narrower tube to let air out when filling) across to the top corner of the tank where it slides tightly around a collar.

It is made of canvas with a spiral wire and slightly rubbery inner liner.

You only know the tank is full when it backs up along this main tube across to the wing/cap.

At this stage the fuel seeps out of the joint of the main tube where it is clamped to the tank collar.

Tried tightening it. Tried putting petrol putty around the inside of the main tube but its a bugger to try and get back on - the far side of the tube doesn't fit round the slightly distorted circular tank collar or pushes the petrol putty aside.

So is there some 'grease' sealant I could try and smear around the tank inlet collar and then hope to get the old main tube back on and clamp down on to the 'grease' sealant that then hardens like petrol putty.

Or is there a circa 45mm diameter rubber fuel pipe someone can recommend that will push into this crevice space, fit the collar nicely and be soft enough to clamp to a tight seal.

Or other ideas ?

I use the performance Silicone Race Filler Hose on mine and never had any issues - you can buy various lengths / angles and cut it to suit

That wire reinforced rubber will not clamp down as Dave says a new hose is needed look at car builder solutions although I got mine from one of the rally firms either Demon Tweaks or Merlin Motorsport

Hugh.... the deformed tank inlet.... Do you have an exhaust "repair" shop nearby.....  If so they may lend you a"pipe expander". This will slip into the inlet. With a wide diameter exhaust type clamp on the outside of the inlet and the expander inside you should be able to return the inlet back to near round condition.  (No heat is required). (These expanders will "stretch" an exhaust pipe to allow one section to slide into the other so they are robust devices).

Thanks all.

Paul I live in rural Herefordshire so specialist stuff is thinner on the ground but I'll keep your tip in mind should the new pipes Dave and Snoopy suggest not work.

Would have thought rural would be the best place, agricultural repairs I can imagine reshaping metal is a fairly common requirement Ashwell as bespoke exhaust fitting might also be common

Dave - Thanks. I'd have to get the buggy down to the agricultural repairers....and make it look like a tractor to get their attention. I'll try and solve the seepage with an off the shelf pipe first.

David - Another excellent steer to another useful 'bit'.

I'm starting to see why there's an advantage in owning a standard Manx ie everything is easily replaceable with regular parts. Once a buggy has been customised ie lived a bit it tends to have all sorts of odd quirky 'refinements'.

I agree Hugh it is easier to start from scratch than try to sort other people's alterations.  So you did buy the purple Manx? Where are the pictures Hugh?  This is number 3 is it? 👍

Catch is Debs that other people's alterations are often the sort of lash up I'd do myself or better than my attempted improvements.

It wasn't a Manx it was a MantaRay which admittedly starts with the same 3 letters but is very much far far away from the part of the buggy universe where the the orderly, regulated, conformist and ultimately smart Manx resides.

I'll have you know it is Ford Diamond White .... but with a fuel flow issue. I've drilled out (with a cut of piece of cable) the blocked pipe under the tank but now have the tank seeping at the top challenge.

Vicky claims I now have a banana split ie yellow/white/yellow buggy collection but until the fuel flows properly I'm not 'splitting' anywhere far.

Makes a great MBC pennant holder though.

I would say your buggies are as mrs snoopy says a banana a very ripe banana defo not green defo varying shades of yellow

Ergo I've decided you have a

Yellow / white / geolu

That's more suiting to the Hugh I know 'ole English'

Oojamaflip I can't argue with your observation on the changing shades of yellow it's possible to see in one of my buggys.

Some people go for a wonderful flickering sparkly metal flake as a changeable look. Mine is a different process and finish...

I'd settle for: yellow/Ford diamond white/geolu

Think they are the same wheels as mine, called weller, but I do like your centre caps which I don't have, is there any manufacturer name on them? Been looking for similar for mine.  It looks very nice now you have 3 😂👍

Singularly un informative.

People on here will know the availability and right centre caps you want. Put a new post request for Weller centre caps and I bet you get some great steers and advice.

Debs just measure the diameter of the centre hole in the wheel a quick web search will find you some.
