Hi probably silly question but here I go.  My buggy has a slight weep from the gearbox, noticed oil on garage floor, but before we  get my buggy over a pit are there any know common seal problems that might be the cause.  It is difficult while on the floor to see where it is running from but defo gearbox oil.
Just when our garage floor was dry after fixing the push rod tubes. 😂😂Deb

Hi Deb, You could check to see if the fluid is weeping from the axle gaiters, it may have come slightly loose .

When trying to find leaks you can do worse than stick a bit of cardboard underneath to find where it drips then dust that bit of mechanics with old spice it will leave a track where the oil runs. Even old spice smells better than gear oil

As said axle boots are favourite or the input shaft seal if it is from the bell housing.

Thanks all. The worst part is not knowing how much it is leaking when driving.  Will have a look and update soon. 👍

More times then not its the boots but can be the main flange or the metal flange to gearbox from over torquing the studs
Do not be offended by my spelling mistakes! Why asking tech? questions" As so far I have not asked Any,, Everyone fort it was in possible apart from the One who invented it..

The weird thing is I wiped underneath as best I could went for a long run, came back put cardboard under it and no sign of a leak (at the moment). My question is could it have been over filled?
Will be keeping an eye on it and eventually will put it over a pit to check. 👍

you cant overfill  it as you just fill till it runs out      bears transmissions actually recomended to me   to fill past the    filler hole   when i   had gearbox out  on my  modified   vw    as i was   running    5 times the original power through it    and run shc oil

could be a small bellhousing leak so it takes a while to run down and form a drip after stopping.

Mine used to have a constant drip at the bottom of the gearbox bell housing to engine flange - would leave a 2" puddle within 10 mins of pulling up after a drive but seldom got any bigger.

turned out to be a very common crankshaft oil seal - fairly inexpensive and dead easy to fix - but does mean pulling the engine out.

Engine out > Clutch and flywheel off > pull out old seal and refit new one

Up date and one question guys & gals.  Finally got the buggy over my friends pit and it looks like the drive shaft seals at the gear box are leaking a little.  Going to have them changed my question is would you recommend anything else being changed at the same time. Thanks Deb

Nothing else to do just put the joints at 10 or 2 o'clock, jubilee clips are easier than the hook and crimp type clips if you do not have the correct tool.

Screwfix do a wide range of jubilee clips but you have to buy 10. I think the size they quote is diameter not length
