I use to own a Kingfisher Kombat buggy years ago but as it is with life you have to give up your toys when the cash gets tight. The years have now rolled on with a couple of other projects under my belt.

Its now time to start looking at a new project & I'm getting that Buggy Feeling

What type or criteria do you have to satisfy that 'Buggy Feeling' - a new build or a ready to drive already customised to your liking (is there such a buggy ?!) ?

I've got a Q plate kit car at the moment that i built. More of a test bed for me to learn new skills. It's based on the good old VW beetle which is up & running on the road with a Subaru 2.0 engine. But I'm more of a builder than a driver so get bored easily when I've got nothing on the go. Plus the resale value of an old kit car is pretty much just the value of the now 2nd hand parts

My initial thoughts are getting a LWB buggy body so i don't have any of the IVA hassle. Then all I need to get me going is a New or used buggy body that needs some TLC & paint, Then using the car I have as a donor. Which would get me off to a good start. Plus of course a few of the never ending extra mods as I go along. 

It could make a nice fun project.

Do start a build thread on here when you're ready as it entertains, educates and entices helpful advice and humour.

Others will be along to say Hi anon - think folk must be down on the beach or in their sheds tinkering...

Loughborough is a decent central location for meeting up with other buggys. have a look at the Events and Cruises posts to see some of the excellent informal gatherings coming up (Ashbourne, Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital/Tatton Park, Lincoln, Stoneleigh...) that you can just visit for the day if you fancied and most gatherings involve an eventful cruise around the local area - often there are spare seats if you come buggy-less.

My kit car is a Nova all up & running. I always wanted one when i was a kid.

It's had a ground up rebuild which covered everything I wanted to learn more about. The Subaru 2.0 engine transplant running off the back of the VW box on a beetle floor pan. I built a cooling system that works & made the wiring loom on the car. All new breaks & Red 9 Front & back end. (I'll change back end back again).

I went on a 2 week custom paint & repair course so I could cover the fibreglass (and steel) repairs & then spray my car. Plus picked up some kit to have a go at flocking for the main body tub & roof lining & its a "Q" plate.

All in all its been a great way to learn. Three years of running around in it, its now time to do something else.

If I sell it realistically its only going too be worth the value of the parts. I know its not a straight change over but I have most things to change it over to a Buggy. Then Nova body could be sold on.

Trust me you don't want to go too fast in a Nova. They handle like a sack of bricks. With a front end that slides around & a fat heavy backend. All the weight is pushed towards the rear. Its fair to say it can soon get lively in there 

I've been mulling over selling for a few months but price wise there's not that much in it if you factor in that I'm starting from a good solid base. Without all the time & cost of making good an old beetle pan & running gear etc Plus I want to keep the Subaru motor.
