Hi all,

Sent my beam in to have balljoints replaced, and had them back and not sure if the garage has put wrong types in? Im a bit stumped, seems the nylock nut will run out of available thread before it is tight. Any suggestions?

I think you've left the big camber adjusting nuts out from the top ones along with the big thick flat washers.

Make sure they've pressed the ball joints in with the notches to the front of the car.

Kind of. This is the arrangement I've got at the moment. Don't think it looks right. What you reckon? I've looked in Haines, maybe by uppers are wrong?

Did you check that the notches on the ball joints are facing forward as in the photo that Snoopy linked to? The notches on the camber nuts should also face forward as a start point.

Did you buy the ball joints yourself? If so where from and do you have the part numbers?

You are missing a flat washer from under the nuts on the bottom joints though.

Yes the notches point forward.

The ball joints were sent to my local VW garage who I've used for a good while. I would have done them myself but they have a press there so thought best them to press out old and press in new.

Do they look wrong to you? Thanks

Think your chamber nut may not be fully down.

I'll have another go at tightening them down tomorrow but it's tricky as the thread spins with the joint.

Do the threads have socketed ends to take an Allen key to stop them turning? If not tighten with one of the old nuts with knackered locking ring to lock the taper, then replace the old nut with the new.

a long lever over the top arm  and pushing it down in while tightening the nut will also work if you put a jack under the bottom joint to raise it a bit.

Thanks, ill give it another shot tomorrow. The top ones have Allen key ended threads but lower ones don't unfortunately. I'll try the non-nylock nut and the bar option tomorrow. Thanks for the replies.
