I have been getting my 1300tp engine ready for my trike. It came without a carb but I had a nearly new spare EMPI 30 pict 1 so I was going to use that.
I found the vacuum on the dizzy was no good and so I decided to get a new Powerspark Bosch 034 SVDA Distributor Electronic.
I was reading up on setting up the timing and realize I hadn't read the small print and there is not enough vacuum from the EMPI 30 pict 1 to work with the SVDA.

What should be the correct carb to fit to a 1300tp engine ?

I have a spare 34PICT 3 and matching manifold but that is meant for a 1600tp and would need rejetting and I don't think it would be the best option.

I don't performance just reliability so that's why I want Electronic ignition.

Hi Micky, I think that should be a solex30/31 carb which was used on 1600SP engines as well but bolts onto the smaller manifolds. It has 3 vacuum ports on it! The one on the side works a vacuum only dizzy and one of the 2 pointing out of the back of the car, I was told works a SVDA dizzy. I presume the other port sticking out of the back of the car will operate the retard side of the double vacuum can dizzy's used on automatics

The development of the 30/31 carburettors is interesting... the30PICT series has a 24mm throat, and it's final development was the 30PICT/3 used in the 1970 1600 single-port engine (in the USA). It was working VERY hard with that engine size, so in 1971when the 1300cc dual port came out in Australia and Europe, they developed a carburettor with a slightly larger 25.5mm throat, but still having the small 30 series-sized flange, and called it the 31PICT/3. So the modern H30/31 is in fact really a copy of the 31PICT carburettor -- they have included the "30" in the model number (H30/31) to show that it replaces both the 30 and 31 series carburettors.

So my empi 30 pict 1 has a 24mm throat and the 30/31 has a 25.5mm throat so that's why it works with a SVDA dizzy.

i've got a 31pict4 on the for sale pile of a 1600sp W engine here i'd be willing to chuck across the pond for you.

Thanks for the offer but I found a good condition 30/31 on facebook market place £35 inc postage it has both 1300 and 1600 jets as well.
