Nasty chip there a bit beyond repair, if non of your motor glass folks are interested a house glazing firm will have 6mm laminated glass they cut to shape.
Take the glass out of your screen surround and they will use it as a pattern. If you are stuck there is a windscreen guy 1/2 mile from me will do one.
Kite mark or stuff is not required not part of the mot only needed for LVA test.

01386 47299 vale windscreens thinking his name is jeff did me a buggy screen and other side windows a long while ago.

If you contact a branch they just do stock car screens, you need to call them again and ask who you phone for agricultural machinery windows, or call their head office.
They tend to have a roaming person who will visit and cut glass.

Good luck
Dave

Isn't your screen covered on your insurance, most are? If so they will find the right person for you (and pay for someof it)

Keith you always have a handful of astute pointers and great to know Kite marks aren't compulsory. I do have one on the damaged screen and like the idea of 'proper' glass as this chip stopped a decent sized stone (?) from hitting me in the face, or worse.

Dave you are of course right I should use the insurance. I simply started off thinking the obvious and correct thing to do with all and any buggy incident is ask the forum allied with knowing (expecting) that the screens would be special hand crafted or hand bodged cuts so not available off the shelf. Have now read my A Plan booklet and will ring the number tomorrow and see who they recommend.... £80 excess but at least that's the limit of my financial pain and the insurers will know the new screen is legal/appropriate.

I've wanted to get the rubber under the screen a bit better jammed in as in excessive conditions the rain can trickle in the middle so I need a sealant that sticks to fiber glass and soft rubber....

Hi Hugh,
A while back I needed a replacement for my screen on the RAT which shattered because it was the old type tempered glass, went to my local glasiers and he said bring the whole frame along and he would sort it with laminated, this was at about 4.30pm on a Friday, he said pop back at 10am tomorrow, which I did, he had the new glass mounted and gave me a tube of sealant to fix under the screen fitting.
I have moved since then, but I have found that my local glazier who does a lot of glass for green houses can do the same for me with laminate glass.
Oh and the guy who did my screen charged me £20, Brilliant.

It'll be cheaper to pay to get it done than claim on your insurance as you'll have to declare that as a claim on every other motor policy you have, your risk to them will be seen as having increased so all of your other policies could increase.

David I've had a few windscreen claims and never had to declare as an accident. I don't think windscreens affect your premium. Am I wrong?

Your chip is to big to repair we had one done on a car under the insurance then the guy did one a few weeks later for us on the buggy but through the other car insurance again, they have been busy top dressing roads around here so loads of claims will be going in..
Chip repairs are free but the claims excess will be more than the glass on a buggy

Interesting Hunter I think I'll take the whole screen along to a glazier and see their reaction viz if they seem bewildered I'll go elsewhere but if like your experience they show some knowledge then I now know I don't have to seek kite marks and similar standards 'just' laminated.

David my screen claims for my other cars over the years have not affected the premium or even been declarable as the small print on the policies I've had have said single screen claims are exempt. But clearly a possible poo trap on some policies.

Keith it's too large and more importantly smack in the middle of my view so 'repairing' definitely isn't an option. I've seldom found such repairs much good unless the chip is almost invisible to start with ! However I did think of putting superglue into it should I need my buggy in the next few days...

I've always had buggy screens done by plant/agri glaziers, usually AC Glazing at their depot in Lancs. They now say they cover the country but maybe just act as an agency for more local firms? Not sure.

I've never payed more than £ 40 to get a piece of tinted Flatlam cut using the old glass as template or to my pattern. Alloy style surrounds are generally only held together by the self tapping screws that hold the bottom rail in place, remove them and you can spring the frame open.

Autoglass in Hereford having said yesterday they couldn't do it, I did email Autoglass Specials that Andy R pointed out and they just rang and said they were happy to do it for £120 plus VAT. I guess Autoglass is a franchise company (?) and the Hereford set up don't have the interest or wit to recommend their specialist namesakes ?

Autoglass Specials asked who my insurers were and I said they were Markerstudy via A Plan and they said 'Oh Markerstudy own Autoscreen so you'll have to use them'. All very friendly and I have the screen in the car ready for a trip to local glaziers so I politely thanked Autoglass for having rung back. Man said 'No worries' - doesn't he appreciate what owning a buggy entails ?!

David that's looks perfect although offering to fit second hand screens sounds a little dodgy ?

I have visited 2 local (Leominster) places and they politely said they used to fit laminated glass in such cases but had been advised to not do so for legal reasons. I chatted to the one man and he said there was a serious car crash in Surrey where laminated glass had been fitted to a car along with a notice warning the car owner that it was not the original manufactured glass for that vehicle but in court the glaziers were found liable of fitting in appropriate glass and so liable for injuries.....and the company was put out of business. I had no reason not to believe this story.

I have rung Autoscreen to get a quote and await news but will now see if these local folk are keen for the business.

Thanks.

Hugh

Those legal cases I belive involved side windows, some in public service vehicles and buses. These must be toughened (ie shatter into a million pieces when chipped) rather than laminated (chip and crack when broken like yours). All modern screens are laminated, yours was originally.
