Yes someone else suggested leaving the starter as it'd cope fine. They don't salt the roads up here. It gets too cold to have any effect. Subsequently many cars have survived here that are extinct in Scotland (There are several Datsun 100a s in daily use in my home town!) It was -8° this morning and can get as cold as -30°. There would doubtless be a few odd days of good weather, but the law requires cars to have studded winter tyres fitted, so I'd be better off saving the road tax and insurance money to spend on the buggy.

Yes, your starter will be fine, every one is different but mine never gave up and
it literally flung the engine over with avengence 

I cannot remember the winters year but one morning the temperature was -16 or something daft and the buggy was stuck fast to the ground,
10 inches of snow, and it started fine, as per usual, I just gave it some revs and side stepped the clutch
