Beach Buggy Rolling Chassis Help / Steering rods
« on: July 14, 2019, 07:29:31 PM »
On the mot,and doing wheel bearings this weekend, grabbing the passenger front  wheel top and bottom there seems to be a small amount of play. Ball joints good, track rod ends good. Even had a good going over the trailing arms. I lost patience and did the bearing up firm and the only thing I could see was a slight flexing of the long steering rod. Does this sound normal ??

Beach Buggy Engine and Exhaust Help / Splutter
« on: October 22, 2017, 09:40:58 PM »
I have a 1300 1970 beetle, starts lovely but when I rev it ,it dies ! If I depress the pedal very gently is fine, after this first gentle rev I can rev to my hearts content. Then once settled I still have to rev gently for first rev. This is awkward when pulling out of junctions. I drove it for 2.5 hours the other day and still the same on a hot engine.
I have just done the valves, oil and spent hours adjusting the automatic choke, but did uncover something odd. Number 1 plug lead on the distributed is one place around,anti-clockwise.
Not a buggy problem I know but simular,any idea's folks ? ???

Beach Buggy Electrical Help / Attention seeker
« on: August 03, 2017, 09:58:59 PM »
Sorry to ask the good folks about beetle trouble,reply...not interested thank you. If you like.
So passenger side sidelight not working,so driving around without a bulb. Then passenger side tail light stops working. Change the bulb, turn on light to the sound of the fuse popping. Funny, put old bulb back in,new fuse(16 amp,all I had)and popped again. Spent 2 nights following wires looking for chaffs, cracks and crap connections, could find nothing. Cleaned up all connections and tried the bulb from the right tail light in the left, all fine and working. So put the new sidelight bulb in and tail light ,all ok and 8 amp fuse in. Nuts !! I'm sure these VW's just like the attention, tarts !
From my rooting around i have a query, everything on my beetle is original, so from the sidelight fuse(7) is a wire, grey with red stripes, this goes through the loom to the voltage regulator under the back seat. From here it goes out of site along with the light wires and doesn't appear anywhere again, also a green and black linearly striped wire. Anyone know what they are. Beetle is 1970,1300 model.

Beach Buggy Rolling Chassis Help / Jaked of
« on: February 05, 2017, 09:08:17 PM »
Good old Flags got me some slot mag wheels last year, dead chuffed. Finally finished house renovation so out to the garage finally time to have a go at them wheels. Raining every weekend so didn't want to uncover the car. 52 hours spent rubbing and cleaning and painting. Saturday nice day get the buggy and the beetle out to blow the cobwebs out. Ooh I'll try the wheels on before the final polish and properly measure up for Mr.Tee. Balls they stick out 2 inches from the arches. Does anyone know if they ever made slot mags that went straight on the front of a beetle with discs or shall I sell the car ?

« on: September 01, 2016, 10:29:22 AM »
Does anyone know of any video or youtube things to learn about these ear vw engines. I've tried reading some books but after 10 pages it end up a load of meaningless jumbled up funny words. Hands on i learn instantly so was hoping videos could be the way forward before wrecking my buggy just to find out im a dipstick.

If people would like to join us for the Somerset leg, the plan is to meet up at the Blue Ridge Runners show, (look online at um) near Burnham-on-Sea, on Sunday 21st by 10am for cake & coffee then drive the Somerset Piers (Brean, Weston-Super-Mare & Cleveden) & maybe Bristol, then when the guys head towards the Severn Bridge we will leave them and head back to the show. Let me know if you're planning on joining us so we know when we can head off, thanks.  8)

Beach Buggy General Help / breather pipe
« on: June 05, 2016, 09:36:05 PM »
It's about time i sorted out this. Does anyone know of a small oneway/check valve i can get to go in the end of my fuel breather pipe ? It currently hangs down under the car,not a problem but fuel can pour out when full or going round roundabouts trailing under my hot engine. A friend suggested a tyre valve stuffed in there but i fancy summit more proper,I've grown out of cheap bodge and make do.

Beach Buggy Body and Chassis Help / roof
« on: November 06, 2015, 10:37:47 PM »
I"ve seen pictures of this ear Snorkal buggy from time to time,I now think it"s roof must be one of those american buggy roofs(B....something). A nyone know if they would fit a swb sidewinder.I was determined to make one, wood or fibreglass, but i have to build a house now instead.(not as a roof for buggy).I guess importing one would be hugely expensive, does no one hear make one ?

« on: July 25, 2015, 08:37:37 PM »
Had a great day Saturday, met a few folks, surprised how many buggys were in atendance. Flags top man for organising and chris for a little confidance boost to get home. Shame to not get back to swanage for a beer and release some madness, even sarah my missis enjoyed herself. To be honest i was getting a bit cheesed off with drive repair drive repair and so on but after today i may need a shrink to help get the buggy out of me.
