Members Buggies / Another Dave with Another Doon (apparently)
« on: June 12, 2014, 09:08:13 PM »
Well here she is, all ready for her MOT tomorrow.

Still need to sort out the stance, possibly with some new tyres.  Fuel Gauge isn't working properly, and the ride is a little rigid, so need to tweak that.

Well, after nearly 9 years of building, my Doon Buggy is insured and ready for its MOT which is booked for Friday afternoon.

Massive thanks to Chad for all is help and to anyone else who has posted on my questions.

I'll be getting it out the garage before Friday so I'll try and post some pictures.

Thanks again.

Beach Buggy Electrical Help / Horn wiring!
« on: April 20, 2014, 12:04:49 PM »
Happy Easter everyone, hope you're enjoying the bank holiday.

I'm trying the wire up the horn on my buggy. I know the horn works because I have a green wire coming from it that I keep touching against anything metal (earthed) and it goes off.

The steering column is already earthed because it is attached to the steering support bar which is the main earth for the front of the buggy.

The question is, how do I get the the live wire up the column to attach to the horn push. I'm using a steering boss for a momo steering wheel.

I'm don't think I'm over complicating this and I know the setup is the opposite to how VW intended. There is a wire for the horn on the plug on the steering column but I don't think this will help.

I'd rather use the horn push on the steering wheel rather than set one up on the dash.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all.

I'm trying to set up my twin weber ICTs. The engine runs but not as smooth as I'd like.

Has anyone on here got a vacuum gauge for setting them up that they would be willing to lend me or possibly come give me a hand to sort them? I know i can pick them up for about 30, but I'll probably only use them once.

I'm in Thursley, near Guildford if anyone is interested.

Cheers

Hi all

Hope everyone is getting on with those winter jobs on those buggies.

My Doon is nearing completion.  There is one thing that I am struggling to sort out and that is the bonnet latch.  The Doon has an opening bonnet so I need to sort out a latch/catch and release mechanism.  I'd like to use a cable release like a beetle but not sure which catch to use.  Lee at Volksmagic suggested using a Corrado catch but they are hard to get hold of, so was thinking about using a golf mechanism top and bottom available from Heritage and fleebay.

Opinions welcome, especially from Doon owners.

Cheers in advance.

Beach Buggy Electrical Help / Rear earth points on a Doon?
« on: July 11, 2013, 11:07:49 AM »
Been doing quite a bit of research into the location and type of earth connection at the rear of my buggy, but i'm still stumped!

I'm building a Doon and have earth points on the steering support bar at the front, but need some advice on where to put one at the back and what type of connectors/blocks people are using.

If possible I would love some photos and suppliers of bits please.

I have run a black 25mm2 from my cut off switch to the back of the buggy so I have an earth feed.  I obviously need to connect this to a terminal block of some description so I can take my feeds off this.  Ideally i'd like to find a way of attaching the earth block without an obvious visible fixing!

I know i'm asking a lot, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

Beach Buggy Body and Chassis Help / Speedo and wiper motor on a Doon?
« on: June 25, 2013, 03:36:34 PM »
Hi everyone.

I have been loitering for a couple of years now (obviously on the previous forum) and have been amazed at the amount of info available.  I haven't posted much because I have always managed to find the information I needed somewhere on the internet.

Anyway, I actually started building my buggy around 8 years ago, but due to girlfriends, marriage, flats, houses, money, babies and the buggy shell I planned for no longer being available, its only in the last couple of years that I have got a shifty on with it and am making pretty good progress.

This progress has now been hindered due to a few issues I have come across and need some help.  I'm building a Doon and need to fit the standard beetle speedo.  Now I thought this would be a pretty straight forward task but I am struggling to fit it without drilling holes in the dash.  Is this the only way? I was hoping to avoid drilling holes!

Another problem is fitting the wiper motor.  Again I thought this would be a fairly straight forward task but the two speed motor just doesn't seem to want to fit.

I pretty good at working things out but these two issues are holding up finishing the wiring loom and final fitting of the dash, which is kind of holding up lots of other bits.

Hope someone can help.

Dave
